1978 Toyota Corrola, hatchback, sr5. yellow.

I started this post because the one I'm driving now ( 1982 Mazda 2wd, pu) reminds me of my first car, so simple it's funny. Almost makes you feel like a kid again.

This just might be the answer to some folks midlife crisis... get a simple beater.

Then get in your CTD and it feels like a spaceship.

It was 1975, one of the guys who worked for my Dad tried to trade in a 65 Ford Falcon and they offered him $200. 00. The car was all primer (different colors) seats were ripped up, around 80K miles on it. 2 door, 170cid 6cyl, 3 on the tree.

So my Dad gave him the $200. 00 and brought home my first car. I was still 15 so we had time to "clean it up". 1 gallon of Sherwin Williams blue enamel through the spray guy, some new seat covers and I was set to go! I drove that thing in and out of the driveway for around 4 months. I used to sit in the car and let it idle while I jammed to the AM radio! Once I got my permit dad put tags on it and we went for a ride. Man I never seen so much smoke! It smoked bad enough you could not see anything behind you for around 5 miles (burning all the oil out that I had loaded up inside the engine sitting there at idle listening to the AM radio). Anyway the smoke cleared up and I drove it about a year and a 1/2 until I could afford a 77 Chevy Luv pickup with a stepside body kit. (What a POS)

1969 VW Beetle. Totaled it twice! Got hit head on to which I put on a 1 pc. fiberglass flip- front end while completly customizing it ( lowered, dechromed, EMPI replicas, aluminum dash w/ VDO's, 195/70/15 on the rear -tucked compltly within the fenders- 135/15 on the front... more)

It was really attention getting when I would pull into a gas station when I would flip the front end forward to fuel up!

I got rear ended. I decided to put it to rest after this second incedent.

Two door 1965 Plymouth Furry 225 slant six with an auto.

I had a slant six in a 75 Dodge van, they were almost as noisy as our CTD's with all that valve chatter. Great motor, could not kill it.

'85 Dodge D100 with a 318 and a couple feet of pipe off the Y pipe a cherry bomb and a turn down right behind the cab. Sounded like a stock car :)

1971 Mercury Capri. German built car. 2. 0L, Manual trans. I had to shell out a whole $50 bucks for it. That was around 1984 or so.

It had posi and for some reason I was able to light the back tires up easily. Not sure if it was a low gear ratio, or maybe that it was just really light. It was fun at the time. :D

1977 VW Dasher Wagon (in 1987). Somebody in the past had destroyed the front end and welded a new one back on. The brake light switch on the master cylinder shorted and melted one day and I lost all my brakes - THAT was fun. But the engine ran like a top, and without any emissions control equipment (and weighing next to nothing) that car would fly. Plus, it was one of the last German-made VW's in the US at the time. I figure this - it got me from Wyoming to Virginia with only one breakdown (early gasohol ate two injectors in Iowa) and served me well for three years before I could afford something better.

1965 Chevrolet Impala SuperSport- 396 (325HP) 4-speed. Was September 1978 when my Dad bought it in Indiania, drove it home to southern Ohio. He claimed it was to much car for a 16 year old ( it was Oo. ), but I took care of it and still have it today. In the process of a frame off restoration

'70 Plymouth GTX - 440+6, 4-speed. It's been 21 years since I sold it, and I'm still not over it. :{ I'd say that selling that car was the biggest mistake I've made to this point - or at least the most regretful thing I've ever done.

My first vehicle was a 1985 GMC S/T15 pickup 4x4 with the powerful 2. 8L (173CI) V6 and a 5 speed manual. Towards the end I couldn't get it to stay in 2nd gear, even forcefully holding the shifter in place. But it stood up to about 3 years of me abusing it the entire time. Still runs and is drivable, although it's been temporarily retired until I can figure out something to do with it.

1961 Chevy Impala (sometimes called a bubble top), factory 409 4 speed car. Had a 327 in it when I bought it. Paid $500 in "69" sold it for $500 in 70 when I bought the 70 340 Duster I've still got. Wish I'd have kept the 61, go to EBAY if you've never seen one, I still think they're special.

The first car I had half interest in was a 1936 Chevy 2 door sedan, $125. 00 car. Dual ownership didn't work out too well so when I got out from under the debt I bought a 1937 Chevy. bg
