What brand / type of washer fluid has the highest methyl alcohol content?

Does anyone know what percentages the brands are??

I looked on a "PEAK -20*" gallon I had in the garage and it just says:

Water (7732-18-5) Methyl Alcohol (65-56-1) the heck does that mean?

Lastly... . what are you guys running for your water/meth kits?

Boost Cooler by SNOW or _____ washer fluid?

Thanks

Ian

If you are looking to blend your own methyl alcohol/water try your local farm tire dealer. Around here they sell it for loading tractor tires. It suppose to be 100%.

Id like to stay away from mixing my own but If i have to I will

Ive heard that "Prestone" winter blend has the highest but I dont know how to check

it should but it isnt, I looked at a prestone bottle today and there wasnt anything on it

I looked online for just a second and couldnt find any info either

Ian

the bottle doesnt say much, if anything, about how much meth it has in it, and burning it wouldn't work

I'd also like to know, if you figure it out

The content should be written on the bottle... . shouldn't it?

it says water and methanol :)

ingredients on most foodstuffs are listed in order from highest to lowest ingredient content. they don't give specific amounts and percentages... and this isn't even something that's meant for consumption

I'll have to check again, but I thought I saw % listed on the cheap blue fluid bottle [forgot the name] at Advance Auto. I'm sure that you can ask the suppliers.

These are CAS numbers. They are especially required for international shipping.

They number specifically describe the ingredients in the product for shipping and poison control purposes.

They may or may not list the percentages, but the percentages will be a range. Say 10-30% for Methyl alcohol and 90 to 70% for water. Generally the total is supposed to add to 100% but it may or may not. Especially when you see a range for 0-10%.

Their is a CAS number for every chemical. As you see their is one for water, but their is also one for mineral water which is different.

They give a range because you do not want to give your exact formula to the comptetor of your product.

Type is CAS number in google, you will see what I mean.

Thanks Rotty for the info!

anyone around here running a specific brand that performs well? they need to put the % on the bottles!!!

if you buy the boost cooler gallons from Snow will you be charged a "hazardous material" charge?

Ian

I am not 100% sure on this, but I remember reading that if you take a regular gallon of windshield washer fluid, and add a bottle of Heet (yellow bottle) that will make you a gallon of 50 % water 50% meth, more or less

again, not completely sure on this one, might want to call Snow Performance

Supertech from Walmart? That's what I use. To make it stronger I buy a 5 gallon container of methonal from the local bulk oil distributor and it will last all year. I usually just mark a "full" line on the new washer fluid bottles and drain about 32 oz from each and replace that 32 oz with methonal. Should work out to about 55% methonal. Works good.

I think Snows pre-mix stuff is about $5 a gallon.

Ian, I talked to Snow Perf. a while ago, I was told 2 bottles of dry gas to 1 gallon of washer fluid should be close to 50-50. I run this mixture every now and then. You have to read the back of the little bottles of dry gas, some do not use meth. , they use some other ingredient.
