looking at an automatic truck... clean quad/short 2wd w/ under 100k mies. never seen a gooseneck. transmission should be in pretty decent shape.

I guess a plate and injectors are out of the question, but is there a decent plate that it'll hold or should I just slide the plate full forward and start saving for a built transmission?

I know it's just one of those things where every truck/transmission will be different, but looking for a little guidance... I was thinking a 100 plate slid back a little?

I would talk to the past owner about the truck

Does sound like a nice truck. I sure would want to talk to the previous owner about the truck and what he has had to the truck. Like when he had the trans service and how often he change the oil and what brand of oil. Then have the front end check does your state have state Inspection. Good Luck and hope you get the truck.

my truck had 150k with good previous fluid changes--it started sliping with my first mod of a #8 plate in the stock position. although with it is still in the truck now with lots more done to the engine. just have to be easy with the pedal under lock-up conditions. what year is your truck?

See my other post today, but my 98 only started slipping empty with my #6 at 185K. It has done a good bit of towing too. I used DTT info to adjust my line pressure when I plated it at 116K and got the fiver. It was strong enough to pull away from a chipped 04 D/A once I got it locked up in OD at 55mph!

I bought my truck in '01 with 139k miles on it. transmission felt fine on the test drive, but as soon as I adjusted the valves and installed the K&N drop-in air filter, the torque convertor started to slip at lock-up. The truck was pretty much a pavement princess before I bought it, too. Didn't tow much of anything, and never had a g/n for 5th wheel hitch.

Adding the #10 plate (in stock position) didn't make it happy either. It took the addition of 370s for 6 months, then came the GB trans. at 190k.

In short, start saving those pennies. ;) :-laf It won't be long when you start BOMBing. :D

pennies are saved... it's only a matter of time... I got a killer deal on this truck, so I have money for a transmission...

this thing is a TURD compared to my old truck... I slotted the stock plate so I could slide it WAY forward... removed the AFC spring, and straight piped it... the converter is frowning at me

bmoeller. . Your 01 has an RE, he asked about a RH. As you know the RH does not have the elctronic controls you have.

As to power, it really won't take much. That's a lot of miles on a old transmission. All you need is a good touque convertor and a pressure valve body. You'll be fine.

I bought the '97 in '01. ;)

The RHs do have some electronics for the O/D and the t/c lock-up clutch, same as the RE. Just the RH doesn't have the controls for the other shifts, or an electronic governor. The hard parts aren't that much different. The stock RH won't take a much power as a stock RE.

And yes, the '98 has the RE.

Forrest, even my truck would probably feel like a pooch compared to your last one. lol Not surprised the new is. :-laf :-laf

Transmission are set from factory to handle so much tourque

It don't make any difference If It a Dodge,Ford or GM It Is design only to handle so much torque,so when you start to up the horsepower the automatic transmission will not take It. It just a fact that we half to deal with.

I am doing the same thing as I spent most of Christmas eve checking mine out. Looks like either the Governor pressure sensor or transducer is bad. I am going to put a gauge on it this week to find out which.

I hate to put any more time and money in it with it slipping though. My problem is that it looks like the closest DTT or ATS center is 250 miles away. I do have a long time transmission shop near me that uses DTT parts and has done several lately. I think I will talh to him again this week and talk $ and warranty. I read the ATS warranty and it does not cover for towing over GCWR and with a 98 2500 auto 3. 55 I am about 4K over.

only thing I'll be hauling is butt...

I'm leaning towards DTT because I like their business philosophy and they've got a good installer in Dalllas.

would like to spend less, but time is money, and I don't have much time :(
