Competition How many trucks are running in the 12's?

Competition TBM racing

I slipped my clutch for the first time with a sloppy shift to 6th while towing my trailer.

My questions are -

1. Does that mean my clutch is toast now? It didn't slip again when fully engaged and keeping the throttle buried from 1400 rpm in 6th (woohoo, truck made lotsa smoke though :D )

2. If I get brave and drag race at MM and smoke my clutch would it be unreasonable to think I might be able to get someone to help me change it there and then? I have a new Con OFe in the box. I won't have the tools to do it but thought there might be enough "shadetree guys" to help me out - I'll buy beer and pizza and anything else needed to ease the job.

Kiwi,

The clutch should be fine for a while. Even if you 'smoke' it at May Madness you should be able to run home as long as you're not towing.

I'd put in the clutch NOW. it's well worth the effort. I'd have gotten the Con FE but... . ;):D

The problem with doing it at night and on a weekend (like MM) is that the flywheel has to be resurfaced at installation time. PIA under a shadetree.

Coming through southern Idaho last week with my motorhome, pulling my Rabbit PU, I slowly passed an empty 454 Chev pickup pulling 2 snowmobiles on a trailer. He picked up speed to match me at about 68mph and we traveled this way for a few miles with him back about 500'. As we approached a fairly good sized hill he started to pick up a little speed and passed me at the bottom. I pedaled in a little boost and matched him at 70mph. As we really started climbing I noticed a puff from his exhaust and he accelerated about 5mph and started to pull away. I dropped out of double overdrive and let the Cummins loose. As I passed him doing a little over 80mph I shifted back up into double-over so he could smell a little diesel and hear the nice growl from my right side pipe. At the top he was back about 1/2mi and stayed there even when I slowed to 60 just so I could smile at him. He turned off about 30mi later. I'd say bigblock gaspots are not a problem when pulling. :D Course, maybe he wasn't even trying. Ya, right!

The wife and I went ATVing in Wisconsin with a couple we know. They have a 2wd 454 dually auto and I had a stock 215hp 5-speed 4x4 . When we stopped for the first break, after coming up a mild grade across the river valley, his wife hopped out of the truck and said," what the hell do you have under the hood of that truck"? I casually responded, " a six cylinder". She said, "we were on the floor trying to keep up with you and you were just pulling away"! Our loads were virtually identical.

The sad part is I didn't know he was struggling behind me or I would have floored it. All this was at about 500 ft above sea level, at higher altitudes there is not a normally aspirated gas pickup that I would not race.

I played with an empty chevy in Idaho and should have paid more attention to cresting the rise instead of how far back he was falling in the rear view mirror. I was carrying a camper on back and pulling a trailer.

Its moments like these that make life worth living!

 I got a guy that is always wanting to race me in his truck. He's got an automatic with the 454. Yea he can take me from light to light and most likley in a 1/4 mile. 6 speeds are not meant to speed shift. :p What he won't do, is accept my offer to spot him 1000 lbs. He carries 1000 and I will carry 2000 lbs and we go to a nice long hill that I know about. I even offered to pay for the gas that he would use. He won't bite, cause he knows what will happen. Oo.

:D I make it an absolute point to trounce any Ferd or Chubby that sports a Calvin & Hobbs sticker of the kid peeing on the word Dodge. If I'm on the road, I will pace on them untill we find a nice long hill where I can pull up along side, give a nice big smile and then just leave em sucking fumes. :D :D I have not lost yet and have not had anyone of these SWELL HEADED, Ferd or Chubby owners take me up on a 1000 lb spot. Offer him a 1000 lb spot on a long hill. You will eat him alive. ;)
