AS you gys know, I had a less than stellar experience getting my windshield replaced the week before SOP4. I asked for a windshield and weatherstripping, but got a windshield only, as the old weatherstrip was so hard they actually BROKE the first W/S. I sprayed it with a hose and it leaked, so I took it back, and they glommed some silicone/ urethane under the glass, and called it good. They said if I have any problems, let them know, and they'd take care of it.

The rainy season has now started, and I called the shop back and asked if they would cover the labor to install a weatherstrip supplied by me, since they charged me $80 more than anyone else in town for a windshield alone (I THOUGHT I was going to get new weatherstripping, but turns out my $275 bought windshield and labor only ; everyone else was $185-200 ). So, I am now at a quandry. With my criminal background and the law in this area, coercion is out of the question. What would be my next logical step? I have ordered a new weatherstrip, and hope to have it by the weekend, Mon at the latest (wont know for sure til 1stGen's CAJUN 93 gets back with me).

Small claims court? Better Business Bureau? What else can I do to get satisfaction (besides having automotive stuff done in the swamp, where at least a windshield can get installed right the first time)? If I must, I will pay for labor (again) to get the weatherstripping installed, but I will leave a flaming review with the BBB.

So what did the shop say? Have they indicated that they won't do the WS swap? The actual time involved should be minimal on their part. Since they said "they would take care of it" and they are the priciest in town, I would expect them to have such stellar customer service that they would do that.

One trick you could do would be to write them a letter thanking them for the really good service you got from them with your truck. Take the letter to them and ask them if you are going to be able to leave that letter with them or not. :)

If that is not the case, I would do what you said and flame at the BBB and if they really ticked me off I would run a "thrifty nickel" classified ad. Cheap and everyone reads them.

Hope they see reason and do the install for you.

They called back at lunch today, and said "they'd stand behind it. " That means (even if they didnt intend it to) if they break the windshield, they eat a third one. Why couldnt they have gotten it right the first time?

(W/S breaks because of hardened weatherstripping).

"Hi, this is Jane from ABC Glass. Our technicians found that the weatherstripping around your windshield is too hard to reuse, and it looks like it'll be a 3 day wait to get a new one from the dealer. "

"That's ok, I guess, though I was looking forward to having it back this weekend. Do what ya gotta do. "

It would have been MUCH better for all involved had it gone this way, rather than the Mickey Mousing that went on. I am through with automotive stuff in this town. Nothing has gone right for me the first time, 3 strikes and I'm out (alignment, brakes, w/s). Should have given up after two, but I'm stubborn and cheap sometimes.

Daniel:

Hope you get this windshield sealed up, I know about the the drip coming from the left upper corner dripping on the turn signal lever.

I thought it was the vent leaking that rotted out my floor. Now I know better, it is the WS leaking in the upper corner.
