Here is the situation ,I own a 1994 2500 regular cab long bed with 154,000 on the stock transmission. with the motor completly stock except for 4" rip rook exhaust

i would like more power but my transmission dont think it a good idea.

so i was thinking before i spend a lot of money on up grades i should think about trading it for a 2001 or 2002 .

Give me some reasons why i should or shuldent put money in my truck.

First of all, your truck is just broken in.

Second, it is my experience for decent mods say up to 300-350 HP it is cheaper to stay with a 12v. Any of the newer trucks are really gonna have to have the same things done to their trannies to handle anymore power, clutch, torque converter either or will have to be upgraded to handle a power upgrade.

Third NO TRUCK PAYMENTS MEAN MORE BOMBs. :D

Forth we 12vers dont need anymore jumpin ship over to those ELEC--- TRONIC motors... LOL

I guess it depends on how much you like wrenching. Your motor as a lot of life left in it, 12v are fun to bomb as you can do a lot just by tuning a bit and faily cheap parts. if you get the transmission taken care of you could bomb for years to come. 24v on the others hand have a lot of instant gratification HP available with easy to do upgrades but are more money. Buy the 02 for daily driving and keep the 94 for a toy truck... ... ... ... . I'm not helping am I?;) ;)

If you can, be patient.

If it were me, and I am in a similar situation, I would put the money into the truck you have. I doubt you will be disappointed. Start with your transmission, then let the games begin!:D Especially if you like to work on your own truck, you might not like the 'hands off' approach the 24v's have .

Somebody's going to have to do some real pryin' to get my truck away from me at ANY point in time.

FWIW.

You can make an easy test for $300 or less. Give TST a ring & see what is the lowest #'d plate they recommend for your stock transmission. After you've got that installed, if that isn't ok, then start costing out the next step. No doubt it starts with transmission, then turbo, 0 plate, injectors, etc ... but that'll be the breakpoint in $/upgrade.

I don't know how old you are or if you've ever worked on or owned an engine before emission devices came along, but they sure were a heck of a simpler and easy to work on. With your 12 valve that's what you have, an engine with no emission devices, hang on to it, it will be a collectors item.

Someday the 12 valve 5. 9 will go down as the longest lived, most reliable engine ever put in production vehicle.

Keep the 12V. The 20-25000, (at least), you are going to pay for an over-valved Cummins will go a long, long way keeping the 12V running, not to mention the fun you can have BOMBing the heck out of it. :D Just buy something every month with what would be your truck payment, and for the expensive upgrades, just save it for a couple of months.

keep it. I'll help you turn it up.

you buy, I'll wrench :D

$2000 will get you a Georend Brother's converter and rebuild on the transmission. $1800 if you shop right.

$400 for some nice injectors

$600 in the pump for DV's and spring kit

$1100 for a HX-50 turbo from piers and you'll be running circles around a 24v'er with twice as much invested in it.

besides, i'll be needing a fix now and then anyway. my baby goes to its new home tomorrow night :{

You would not of asked this question if you didn't really want to buy a new truck ;) You have had this truck for 8-9 years it's time you got something new. I would sell your current truck yourself and then start looking for the truck you really want. I agree with LS Smith get a 6 speed.

Robin,

Take your 24v ideas and go play in the other sand box... :D ;) We are trying to keep a 12ver around. . thank you, we dont need you filling his head with ideas that are WRONG... :D :D :D :D

wow, dident think i would get so many replys

I will be keeping the truck:D

mabey in a couple of years i will buy a newer one for a daily driver and keep this one for fun.

I am verry much in to working on vehicles i also own a 2000 jeep wrangler that is my toy.

Todd T ,

I will have to take you up on the offer sometime, I hope to catch up to you some time mabey at the next st. louis area gathering?

I say keep it and upgrade it. You will spend way less by keepin and BOMBing your current truck than with a new truck, especially if you consider getting a newer truck with an auto, because the transmission still has to be modified/replaced.

So I say bite the bullet on the transmission, call Suncoast or ATS or DTT or whoever you should happen to choose, beef up your current truck, then go to town. You will be glad you did.

And you wouldn't be asking it you didn't think you were doing the right thing by selling it;)
