Howdy,

It looks like time has come for an upgrade. I have EGT and Boost gauges, so that's covered but other than that the truck is stock.

I've been looking at the Edge EZ or DDII's. I have not done anything to the clutch and I really don't want to.

I don't tow much, but I also don't want to have to eagle-eye the pyro constantly when I do have a trailer.

So, let's hear it. Which one do you recommend (and why), or would you recommend something else entirely?

Thanks,

Mike

Here is my personal opinion.

I had an EZ with BD II's. It was a nice combination, reasonably fast and good for towing.

I 'traded up' for a Powermax3 and 115 hp injectors, (choose your own vendor there are several).

I REALLY like the control feature of the PMAX, just turn it up or turn it down. The EZ is not remote adjustable and I seem to blow a lot of smoke even when I did not want to.

Most power upgrades will require an eye on the pyro. Although I think a couple of vendors (TST) for sure have an automatic system that can do it for you.

Call Mark Chapple he can fill you in.

There are a lot of posts and opinions on this, do so me reading and calling of vendors. I don't think you can make a really 'bad' choice.

Mike,

The EZ is a good kick in the pants, over stock. Also installs in about 5 min.

The injectors really need a fueling box to be appreiciated, and take a little knowledge and time to install, not that I'm trying to talk you outta' them, just the facts.

Some guys get multiple BOMB's on their trucks before the clutch slips, however I wasn't so lucky, it went like this... ... ... . one bomb, one clutch, dohh! Just a heads up, and another one is... ... ... ..... BOMBing NEVER stops, so you better start lookin' at different clutches, it's nice to have one sittin' in the garage when you NEED it! LOL

Later, Rob

mikel,

If you want to drive one with an EZ, and check-out the install, PM me. I live right between Sealy and Bellville, and I can meet you somewhere on my way home from work.

BTW Henson's (formerly Dowell Motors) did not have any problem with the EZ box. The service writer said that it would be a problem only if it were proven that the EZ caused whatever failure.

If you want to go small, then get an EZ, if not then you can't beat an Edge Comp box. Injectors are nice, but you need some kind of fueling/timming box to really make the truck haul. .

Andrew

Andrew should know. I spanked his butt one time. He has also rode in the truck before. I did get rid of the factory clutch while I had the money. It had slipped on extreme load if I got down on it too hard.

Mike, go with the EZ , all points spoken are very true, for what you want its a no brainer the EZ hands down, also your egt will actually be lower:) ... ... ... ... ... ..... Kevin

If I remember correctly the ETH trucks respond better to injectors than they do boxes.

If it where me I would do your clutch up right and then do an Edge Drag Comp and DD super Mentals and and and... but you wanted to know what you should do... I think I would get the DD2's and see how you like em. Then maybe a boost module and modify the waste gate on your turbo. On the other hand the EZ has a 30 day $$ back guarentee so how could you go wrong. Maybe find a local chapter and borrow an EZ and see what you think. I know when I loaned mine out that I had a tough time getting it back.

Thanks for the help

Thanks everybody for the help. I still don't know which one I'll go with, though. I'm going to try and hook up with me4osu and drive his EZ equipped truck.

Thanks again all,

Mike

P. S. me4osu I trued to send you a PM, but got a message that I couldn't because your mailbox was full. If you want, shoot me an email at big_cummins_ram@yahoo.com

DO yourself a favor

Just order,

Edge Comp

Step 3's injectors (you pick the brand)

Mega Cannon

4 inch exhaust (again your choice)

South bend clutch

and you'll be done for at least a week, before the bomb bug bites AGAIN. IT NEVER STOPS, NEVER.

I'll get 1 bomb that's it, think I've heard that somewhere:rolleyes: ;) :D

Hold on to your wallet Mike, is going to be a bumpy ride... :D :D

The DD2's will add a LOT more power than the EZ, like double!!!. 275's will add more power on the ETH than the EZ. The injectors are easier on the clutch too, the big torque in the low end from the boxes is really hard for the clutch to hold. Get the injectors and a boost module, EGT will be the same or lower and you will have a lot more power. I would give your clutch better odds of living with the injectors than I would the box.

You might try the Western Diesel Turbo RPM module. Its not as hot as some, but we have had good feed back from customers about its overall performance and EGTs. It is 65hp and 188 lb/ft at the rear wheels and installs in just a few minutes.

Mikel, I would like to make one suggestion if you are going to try a box. Find someone that has a box that will fit on your truck. I drove two different trucks that had boxes. I did not get the WOW feeling that I got when I tried a box on my truck. Both trucks sounded different and felt different than my truck. I did not get any appreciation for the power a box has to offer driving other people's trucks. But, once I tried a box on my truck there was only one word. WOW! So, if you try a box on the trucks of others you might be disappointed.

Dave - Diesel Power Products - If I am not mistaken the Western Diesel Turbo RPM module is just a rebadged Edge EZ. Not that that is a bad thing, just pointing it out.

JR2- That is what a lot of people seem to think, maybe because the packaging is so similar. The Turbo RPM module is a Western Diesel product and is not a rebadged EZ.

As with any of the WD power modules these have a 30-day money back guarantee. Try it if you don't like it send it back. If the unit is returned a small restocking fee of $35 does apply. The Turbo RPM module has 3 adjustable settings to accomidate future upgrades such as injectors and EGTs remain very close to stock. The Turbo RPM modules are 65hp and 188lb/ft at the rear wheels. It also reduces turbo lag and can help get better milage. Check the TDR classifieds for these modules. If I can answer further questions, please contact me. (509) 547-7029
