What year 12 valve?

I am going to be buying a 94+ 12 valve reg cab 2500 rollover for a "project" and need to know what year to buy as far changes to the truck. It will be a 5 speed 4x4 and must have the dana 80 rear end. I will be bombing this engine and want the gov spring kit as well. I am fairly 12 valve illiterate and could use the help on any upgrades. Thanks in advance.

Davey, I'd look for a 96 or newer. That way you get the 215hp pump and injectors. Best would be a 1998 12v.

Yep, get a '96+. The pump is much better set up. Get a big TST plate and a clutch.

If you are going to bomb the engine, don't even consider a '94 or '95. I have a '94 and EVERYDAY I wish I had a '96 or newer pump.



The smaller pumps in the '94-'95 year models don't like to rev as much as their bigger newer brothers. Even with a governor spring kit, the smaller pumps don't rev as well.

Hey, if it's a good deal, buy the truck and dump the 94 pump in exchange for a P7100 pump from a 96 or newer with a five speed transmission. The five speed pumps are more capable than those in the autos.

Does anyone know how I can tell which pump I have? I have a '96 that was built in Oct of '95. I was just curious after reading this post if I had the 94-95 pump or the '96+ pump. Thanks...
