Hey folks, I have a friend who is looking to buy an '01 or '02 CTD.

Can anyone tell me when the high output motor was introduced?

Thanks Colby :D

I have a 2000 with a HO... . ???
With all respect, you probably have a 2000 with a small input shaft 6-speed, or you have a 2001 truck. Check the tag on the driver's side of your engine - if it doesn't read 245 BHP, it isn't an HO. You might want to check out Dave Fritz's website - HERE are the 1998. 5-2000 24 valve Cummins engine specs, and HERE are the 2001-2002 24 valve Cummins engine specs. Note, however, that Dave states the 2001 model year started (and the HO became available) on January 1, 2000.

Yep the 2001s hit the lots January 2000, so they have been available since 2000 even though there is no such thing as a 2000 HO. Makes a lotta sense, eh? :p

Back in the fall of 1999 when I heard they were planning on producing a HO I kept watching the news waiting for it to come out. They kept saying late availability for 2000, but then Chrysler did the super early 2001 intro and totally skipped doing HOs for the 2000 model year.

I stand corrected... My VIN indicated a digit 6 which is standard 24V.

Now, what is this about a small shaft 6 speed ??? I assume this is a bad thing ?

the small shaft in the 6 spd is the same size input shaft as the nv 4500. it is not a bad thing unless you increase the HP. the small shaft measures 11/4" and the HO 6 spd uses a bigger clutch and a 13/8" input shaft
