I am looking at adding a 2nd gen to my collection again cause i miss my old 98(24v).

As far as 24 valves go what year do you think is a good year... .

I know they made a reg and a HO motor which is better... What should i look for when looking?

What years or what trucks or what options or specs should i stay away from?

THANKS

I believe rear disc brakes were used in the mid '01 through '02 model years. HO motors were available in '01 and '02 only and all came with the NV5600 6 speed.

If you really enjoyed your '98 24V, then I bet you'll be happy with just about any year 2nd gen.

When you are looking, check out the fuel system (lift pump and injection pump) and the front end. That's the stuff that you will probably be wrenching on first. On newer trucks, you can cycle the ignition key 3 times to get codes but I don't believe this works on MY '00 trucks and older??? You might want to borrow somebody's code scanner or Smarty to check codes if you find an older 2nd gen that you want.

For the front end, check the ball joints, track bar setup, rod ends etc...

Also, look for the 53 blocks. They were very common in 98 thru 00 trucks but some later trucks had them too.
