1991 250 Project

I was thinking of a conversion of a Ramcharger. I live in CA right now and the engine would have to come from a bread truck to have a light duty emissions tag on it. Were they available from 1993 on?

Doesn't Cali have a rolling 25 year cut off for emissions checks? Could you use a 1980 or earlier Ramcharger?

Good luck with the conversion. I always thought that would be a great project.

My 4BT was manufactured in 1988. They are still in production as of today, but with electronic controlled injection, common rail I believe.

FYI: The emission tag on my engine says it is a medium, heavy duty Diesel.

I thought Cali was like Alaska were diesels are emission exempt?

If the title of the truck you're repowering was originally a gasser, the Emissions and CARB board will not allow it to be registered without a fuel type amendment on the title, to do this, it has to be taken to a referee. Its all about the Benjamin's, nothing else. Old neighbor buddy of mine in San Diego went through this when he repowered a Suzuki Samurai with a VW diesel engine. THe engine also had to be the same year as the vehicle or newer. Complete paperwork nightmare for him, but he's still running it around town and in the desert 12 years later .

The oldest p-30 bread van I have bought with a 4bt in it was a 1979 model, The engine data tag was missing, so I don't know if the engine was a refit, I'm sure it was. Never bothered to check on the original product year of the 4bt's.

The B series was introduced way back in 1981. Don't you guys read your TDR periodicals??? LOL.

They are located in a small shrine with accent lighting so I can properly display them in my den :D I don't want to get the pages dirty actually reading them.

I was hoping to find a Ramcharger from the 90's for better rust protection. That would require a 4bt from that same timeframe or newer from a truck.
