So, it turns out that my 5 year old AirDog FP100 is failing. fuel pressrue varies from 4 to 16 psi randomly. Checked voltage to the pump (14. 04 volts. check) and checked fuel pressure with a separate gauge at vp, before & after snubber (readings are the same. check) I called Pureflow and went through the troubleshooting with them. they agree the pump is the culprit. So they offer to either send me a new unit, or I can upgrade to the latest and greatest Air Dog II which has better longevity, reliability, yada yada... I decide to spend the money and get the upgrade. It arrived yesterday and the trouble has begun...
On the new unit the output and return fittings are so close together the instructions tell you that you have to align the flat on the return ftg (loosen or tighten) to allow the pressure ftg to thread in without interfering with it... Why so close
also, both ftgs are much longer than the ftgs on my original AirDog
Because of the extra length I would have to flip the unit 180 deg to allow the hose ftgs to mate up as there is not enough clearance between the pump and the frame rail that the whole thing is mounted to... But this puts my fuel lines very close to transmission/driveline connection. At least it would if I could get the connectors to attach to the ftgs on the pump (remember the uber close ftgs I mentioned earlier?) It seems impossible to be able to thread the connectors on as they interfere/overlap (see pic).
so, after a very frustrating afternoon trying to swap out the AirDogs, I am left wondering what I am doing wrong? (Please don't say "buying an AirDog"). Are there some special fittings that I need for the hoses that have a smaller OD? (nothing about that in the (very limited) instructions that came with the upgrade.
I've actually been very happy with my Airdog for the last 5 years. It has been rock steady 16-18 psi until recently.
I am not the most talented wrencher, but I like to do as much of the maintenance/repairs & upgrades that I can, on my own vehicles.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
