Bushmaster has always been top quality in AR-15's.

For 600 bucks I guess it is Post Ban huh?

I think the Colt quality is la tad lower than Bushmaster.

New Bushmasters are going for between $800-$1200, depends on what you want on them. I have TWO of them, both pre-ban, I love the quality. Definitely better than Colt.

BUSHMASTER!

Hey Don-

I am almost certain you would be very happy with the Bushmaster. I have one with the 20" barrel, I bought the parts from Bushmaster and put it together myself, which was relatively easy and less expensive. It shoots great! I have been around Colts as well, but I would tend to lean towards the Bushmaster, and they are reasonable to afford, and that is a good buy that you talked about! Happy Hunting:D :D

Got 3 AR's, a Colt, a Bushmaster and a DMPS or something like that, cant remember the initials. The way I have it understood is all the parts pretty much come from the same suppliers across the board. I'm sure some go the extra mile to add whatever to make theirs special.

After seeing Marines take old worn out Colts on the range that had tens of thousands of rounds fired through them, and be able to put 10 rounds in a 6 inch hole from 500 yards away made me realize that the brand really isn't the question. Its an issue of weather or not you can shoot. You can buy all the big names you want, but if you cant hit the broad side of a barn, no brandname is going to change that for you.

If its something you want to sell later down the road, better get a good name brand then. But if its something you are going to keep in your closet and fire for fun to improve your marksmanship, then it doesn't matter much whose name is on the upper/lower receiver.

If the AR is clean and well taken care of, $600 is a far price in my book. Have seen used ones go for less, and have seen used ones go for more.

That is a great price, is it new or used?. We carry the Post ban version like you describe where i work for more then that. As for brands of AR's?, the best would be Wilson Combat and Les Baer (both are VERY expensive. but if you are only concerned with non competitive target shooting and just having fun, go with Colt, Bushmaster or Armalite. The biggest advantage of Colt is the resale value, you can always sell a Colt for more then a Bushie or Armailite. DPMS, Olympic Arms and a bunch of other compnaies also make AR's but nowhwere near the quality of the other brands mentioned above.

I have a pre ban colt (held out of state because of NJ's assinine gun laws) a Bushmaster, a DPMS, and one I built myself.

The quality of the Bushmaster is second to none!! A colse second would be the DPMS, partially because Colt screwed with the pin sizes. It makes swaping uppers, and doing a trigger parts swap a bit of PITA.

Go with the Bushmaster. You'll be happy with it, unless it's been shot to hell. These barells last 5-10K rounds, so that's unlikley.

That's definetly a fair price IMO.

The serious highpower competitors around here are at least 3 to 1 Bushmaster shooters. If you want the best follow the competition shooters, they put performance above all.

The Bushmaster AR-15 that I am looking to buy is a pre-ban that is in near mint condition. Judging from the posts it looks like a good deal so I'm gonna get it. I am also buying a Tikka . 308 rifle from the same person. It is from Finland. It has a Leupold scope and a custom stainless muzzle brake. It is also $600. Anybody know about this rifle?

If I remember right the Tikka rifles are made by Sako and brand named, so it should be a good rifle. All that I have ever seen looked to be of very good quality and the one that I have shot (30-06) was averaging about 2 1/4" @ 200 yards bagged down hard, better than average accuracy from the rifles I have shot.

Tikka was bought by Sako. Price depends a lot on which model it is, and the condition.

If that REALLY is a pre ban, it's a STEAL!!! .

I think there is a section where you could look up the serial #'s on ar15.com to see if it's a true pre ban.

Even if it's not, as long as it wasnt beat, it's a good deal. Just disassemble the upper from the lower before you buy it. That way youre "legal" until you purchase a post ban upper. :D;)
