Greetings! (is the faq working?)

I have been looking for a second truck to drive around in and not really modify. I figured a First Gen would be good but I don't know much about them. One I found was a real clean 93 extended cab 4x4 with an automatic, front fender was replaced so they went ahead and painted the whole truck, never been towed with, doesn't even have a hitch. Older gentleman had it with a slide in camper, the bed is scratched up but no dents. It drives good, transmission seems solid though it has a leak up front near the bell housing, shifts nice once warmed up. Power everything works and has A/C. Seats and carpet show some wear but no holes. Has some oil leaking from valve cover seals. Starts up on the first crank, no funny noises and runs smooth. 180,xxx miles. What's this thing worth. Thanks for any help.

The way you describe it I'd say ballpark of 7k. Nice paint really sells but I'd be cautious of a auto with that many miles on it. Course I don't like autos so perhaps I'm pregidous.

Sounds like a nice truck to me. 7 or 8k would be about what i would expect to pay here in ma. I looked for a 1st gen 4x4 club for 6 months and never found one to even look at within an hour from the house. So i settled for a 2nd gen. I love the look of the 1st gen but i think the parts are going be tough to find. Its hard enough to find the 2nd gen parts sometimes.

Thanks for the replies. My gut was telling around 7000 for a nice one, you guys have helped confirm it along with some other research. Your right Scott, fresh paint is nice but can distract you too. Just got to be patient, the "one" will be here faster than I think. Thanks guys.

Mom's auto has 250K and still going fairly strong. it could use a tighter converter, but then again, they ALL could. The leak around the bellhousing is most likely a rear main- hafta pull the transmission to replace it, and the seal itself is around $40.

I wouldnt go more than $7K, and then it would have to be an LE with every option, no leaks, clean interior, etc. The truck you described is worth about $6K-6500. How often have the other fluids been changed? Some people are soooo dam proud of their 2500-3000 oil changes, but never touch the oil in the transmission, diffs or t-case. They are just as important, as is flushing the brake system and yearly and coolant every other year, regardless of how few miles; sooner if more miles.

The trans fluid looked okay, didn't smell burnt or anything. However I passed on that truck, it was too much and not what I was wanting to pay for a second truck. Seems like there just ain't many of them around, and if there is they are 2wd. Under 8000 is really what I want to spend, heck, the cheaper the better. Seems like the ones I would go for are over 1500 miles away, then again ain't nothing close once you look at how big Texas is :D .
