Hey Guy's I am converting a truck over to 5 sp and figured while it's apart I want to put a good clutch in basicly do it once and do it Right . it's a daily driver pull's a Really sweet trailer on the weekend going to dunes . Not sure on HP goal but truck belong's to a Younger guy and I'm sure he will be keeping it for a while Any Advise would be helpful on where to look I am a clutch NewBe so Please help :)??????

Personally, I would be going with a South Bend Clutch. As for model, 0090 is great for stock but if he is keeping it for a while, I would suggest doing maybe a CON O or even a CON OFE. Do it right the first time and you will not have to reopen it for a very long time! :)

At very least, give Peter a call. He will at minimum give you more knowledge and food for thought.

Which transmission are you using for the conversion, the Getrag or NV4500? They both use the 1. 25x10 spline input shaft so it probably don't matter. If you are interested in the south Bend, I would go with the 13125-OK-HD, it has the full 3" lining on the disk, the same as 1st gen oem style. I think the 0090, CON-O and CON-OFE use the shallow lining like the oem NV5600 used?? Not that the oem type shallow lining is bad, just that the full 3" looks "mo betta":-laf

The SB 12. 25 did have a weak center I know I had one come appart on me. I switched to South Bends 13" and it is a good clutch. South Bends clutch also comes with a flywheel. They also have some very good clutch hydraulics if you need them for your swap.

In terms of the "do it right, and do it once" mentality, is there any downside (other than cost) of just going with a South Bend double disc? Comparitively, does a double disc give twice the service life, having two friction discs, or are the individual friction buttons thinner? Does upgrading to a SB DD make the Getrag/nv4500s a lot slower and notchier to shift? I'm in the boat as Simplysmn, and will be ordering a clutch soon. Like the OP, I'll be doing alot of daily driving and moderate trailer pulling. I've had a SB 3600 lever type, and a SB 3250 finger type DD in my '06, and shifting is significantly slower... to the point of really needing to double clutch every shift, and do the 5th-2nd-1st bump sequence to get it smoothly into 1st gear.

If it were me I would talk to Peter at SB and pass your thoughts by him. He will be happy to go over your needs and ideas regarding the right clutch for you.

I like the LuK Pro Gold and they also have diffrent clutches for diffrent HP ranges , call Six States Distributing

I'm a Southbend fan, too. Installed many of them, including on my own trucks, and not had any problems that weren't driver related, IMO.

The 13" replacement from them is an excellent clutch. Without many power mods, they are ideal. I'd still be running my factory clutch, were it not for farm hands jerking it in gear, burning the clutch, and tearing up the Getrag... ... I used a Con-OFe in mine, and am really happy with it, and I've got quite a few mods on the truck, so it's bumping 300-350hp, I'd guess... .

The double disks are much slower to shift, mostly just due to rotational weight. If you try to hurry it up, they will grind. I'm a big fan of them for the big power numbers, but I feel they're overkill on most trucks. They engage pretty harshly, and if you're not used to driving one, you can cause some problems. If you're not really pushing the power and not trying to pull, I think a an OF or OFE are more than adequate, IMO. I like the OFE, using it in two of my personal trucks, and usually the one I recommend for customers wanting a little more out of their 2nd gens. They perform very well, and are not too harsh to shift or during initial starts. I've only used two of the OF clutches, but they seem even more smooth than the OFE, and should be as they don't have the pressure plate tension or friction resistance the OFE or DD use. A direct replacement should be comparable in cost be it a LUK, Southbend, or Saks. I like the Southbend for the service, as well, so it would be my choice.
