Holy ABBA! TDR in Sweden!!

we have about 15 birds roosting in our firehouse, the bay doors are usually open, so they come and go as they please. I assume it is one pack of birds that have been there all along as the FH was built about a year ago and they moved in during the construction phase. How would you rid the family humanely or otherwise? Oh yeah sorry no guns allowed :( :-laf

Had one that kept crapping at my back door when sitting on a ledge under my patio cover. Put a stuffed rabbit toy on the ledge - no more bird!

Get a bunch of stuffed cats and put them in the rafters near the roosting spot. Record some 'cat calls' on a tape and throw a couple of speakers near the stuffed animals. They'll hightail it outta there faster than a new family in the Amityville Horror house. :-laf

Jim, call the UI Co...

Run over to TreeLand and buy a few Owls. We use them here at work. They would land on the ledges of the windows and set off the glass break alarm. Put the owls in a few offices and no more false alarms.

HOOTERS, the humane method!

my buddy put this ultrasonic bird repellent thing in his outdoor previlion. It keeps the barn swallows away.

Wait until they're all in for the night. Close the doors and start the trucks. Ummm, you guys go outside for a while. Reenter later and look for the suicide notes.

Ya know that idea has been thrown around but the bay is attached to the building where on the 2nd floor the dispatchers are located. Figure the fumes may creep in through the walls for a chance of CO poisioning. Hmmmm, Maybe kill 2 birds with one stone :-laf J/K :-laf Anyway may mention the owls. What about like D-con spread around the top of the air handlers up in the ceiling? Would they eat it?

I don't know if you'd want to try this, but I've heard of using a regular tube of grease. Slime it around on what they like to roost on (like on a roof truss). They don't like to sit on the stuff.

There is a product called Nixalite that looks like little spikes that will keep big birds off things, but the smaller birds weave their nests in it and thrive! What kind of birds are they? Hate to poison or otherwise kill "good" birds, but if they're pigeons or starlings, oh well!

An alternative to Nixalite is an aerosol spray ( for birds) applied to roosting places. The hand-held application becomes very sticky, yet pliant, and once birds touch it they leave or find a non-sticky place. Cured sparrow problem and re-application keeps them away.

The alka seltzer thing doesn't work guys. It just foams out their mouth. Yeah I tried it when I was an ignorant kid. Wanna see something funny, throw saltine crackers one at a time to sea gulls and watch the fight. After about 15 or so crackers, douse one in tabasco and watch the fun!!!

We tied beer cans to chicken bones and watched the seagulls fly off with them, then we starting putting M-80's in the cans and it got real interesting.

I say take an airsoft pellet gun and teach the kids some shooting techniques.

This one my Gradma swears by (Yes I have seen it work also) Go into the toy section of your local gettin place and but a bunch of cheap rubber snakes. Hang them here and there and the birds will not come around. Plus it can be fun when the unsuspecting walk by and the rubber snake gives em a scare. Good Luck, Robert

Well we tried the trucks running with the doors closed method today. Well have to see of any long term effects but the little *******s arew still flying around out there

The problem with running the trucks is, Diesel doesn't have the Carbon monoxicde (sp?) content that a gasser has. When I was in Tech School, D-pad had some pretty big leaks in the exhaust evacuation system. We'd have 10 engines running at the same time and never had an issue. There were times you could hardly see across the shop the smoke was so thick.

I think the plastic Owl idea would work the best!

Make your own trap

Go to purplemartin.org and click on ''archives''. Scroll down to NB-Compact Trap and you will get nice directions on how to build a repeating trap for starlings and sparrows looking for a nice nesting site. You can trap them high in the nesting zone, but this trap can be set up so that it can be emptied without use of a ladder.
