I want to mount a fire extinguisher to the rear cab wall. It doesn't feel to me like the rear cab wall carpet is against sheet metal? Also - Is the rear cab behind the seats double or single wall sheet metal? I don't want to run a sheet metal screw right thru the rear cab #ad

I've never had the chance to take apart a 2001, but on my 95 and my 98, there was a space between the carpet (mounted to a fiberglass board) and the rear wall. Not positive, but I think it is about 1/2". The carpeted panel snaps off if you want to take a look.

Hope this helps some.

Dane, rather than mounting the fire extinguisher to the rear cab wall, you might think about mounting under the driver side seat on the floor. Since I had a quad cab, I couldn't mount it to the wall like your thinking of doing. I wanted a spot that I could reach quickly in case of an emergency. I have power seats, so I followed the owners manual in not placing things under the seat which could damage wires. There should be a small hump towards the front of the seat between the two seat rails on the floor. I used the extinguisher mount and self tapping metal screws about 3/4 of a inch long. I drilled thru the carpet and into the sheet metal. The screws never came thru the floor, so there must be a double wall. Just another option you might consider.
