I know someone here has dropped the fuel tank before! What's inside, i. e. baffles, hard lines, etc... . I'm trying to get an idea before I drop the tank to do something with the LP in the tank. (I'm just full of questions!)

It did when I bought it. It died right after I bought it (<2 weeks) when I was changing the filters. The dealer replaced it with the one in the tank. So I know that I've got a LP and Fuel Level sending unit... ... . What else????? I don't know...

WOW, I guess no one has ever been into the tank before. I guess I'll drop it, look around, and put it back up. Then I'll get the crayons out and come up with something.

Dude, when did you buy thetruck? There are NO lift pumps in the tanks on any of theese trucks from the OEM for sure up until 2004. There was Just recently a kit released that installs an lp in the tank but this kit was litterally just released. So being your truck died two weeks after you bought it and you bought it new and you are the first owner of it I can bet with confidence there is no lp in the tank.

Just tryin to save ya from dropping the tank.

ToolMan, Yes they put the LP in the tank. I bought it used 8/05 (it's an '02). It had a LP on the block and now it doesn't. I was hoping they would do the VP-44 at that time but they did not. The harness install looks like a 3rd grader did it. My signature show up sometimes and sometimes in doesn't.

LOL I just posted to your Q in the RT forum

O. K well now that is a whole different paint job here. So the kit has been installed.

Hang on I am going to try and grab the paperwork on the in tank pump.

You sig shows up in the first post.

There is nothing in the tank. Internally, it would appear as it does externally. You have a pickup assembly, a fuel return and a fuel level sender all hung in from the ring in the top.

Tahnx ToolMan! I'm curious about what kind of plumbing, i. e. plastic, aluminium, hoses, what sizes, etc... .

Thanx Fish! Good to know. Guess I'll make sure I read all the posts in a thread before answering half-as*!

Thanx n7 for the link. Interesting. Must be a pretty small LP if it fits inside the module. Anyone know what the GPH of the intank LP is??? I know Pressure is pathetic (7 to 8 PSI @ Idle, 3 to 4 PSI @ Cruise, and MAYBE 2 PSI @ WOT) Physical dimensions? MMMMMM.

I just switched out my stock 35 gallon for an Aero 60 gallon tank. I was suprized to learn that the stock plastic fuel take is just a big hollow piece of plastic. No baffles, no nothing. Good luck with the in-tank lift pump. It took a trained specialist 4 hours to drop the tank and switch over. I would hate to do all that work just to replace a Lift pump. I'll be watching how this correction hold ups. Good luck.

OK. . I'm not a trained specialist, but it only took me 4 1/2 hrs to drop my tank, remove the sender assembly, dissect, test, and clean it, reassemble it, replace ALL the fuel lines on the truck (not just the ones between the tank & engine), remove some old factory hard lines that the PO had broken off and their associated brackets, and put the tank back up, start it and check for leaks.

Granted, I don't have a pump in the tank, but if it is the same basic assembly, just with a pump, I don't see where it would be any different.

Only took 2 hrs to drop the tank and replace the in tank pump in my neighbors caravan last night.

I think I need to open a shop. I've heard a lot of story's where it took twice as long to do a job.

not bragging, just saying after having dropped my tank, I can't see it taking that long.

It's not hard, just time consuming. My point is that I would want to make sure that this fixes the LP problem before I go relocating the LP in the tank. This is something that time will tell. Because now a 45 minute job (replacing the LP) takes 4 hours. And this isn't something you can do on the side of the road. So, I hope this is the fix. I'm just paranoid though, after 80k, my LP is going strong.
