Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) What's in the resonator?

Is the resonator packed with material like the muffler? Does the resonator muffle the any sound like the muffler?

On my 99 the resonator didn't look to be anything more than a expansion tube when I pulled it off to put a 4" exhaust. I even went a while with a muffler elimination pipe ( obviously b4 the new exhaust) and it did a decent job at keeping the noise down.

it's basicly a big glasspack



the OEM muffler isn't packed, just a big restrictive chambered beast
