Well, what's it take to beat one of our lesser endowed bretheren, either the 8, or the 10? Anyone know what they do in the 1/4? I read about someone smoking an F-150 Lightning a few months back, but I can't seem to find the post to check his additions.

simple stuff

These days, good old "black boxes" will do the trick. Add injectors, a good trans, gearing, and a smart driver, and you can beat them. Lots of stock diesels can outrun stock cars and other trucks.

Competition rigs will have bigger turbos, better manifolds, and the like to get into good times. It depends on what you want to do and how fast you want to go. Of course, it will take money to get serious. :D

A v-10 will be real tough as they have about as much torque as you and a bunch more hp. run them for fuel mileage.

Your 4:10 will help you out of the hole.

The first issue is a stealth credit card w/ no interest and no payment.

A set of DD2's and a mild box will more than level the field but before you do that you will need gauges, transmission upgrade and intake/ exhaust upgrades that may have to include a turbo up grade.

Then if that still is not enough, a bigger fueling box and larger injectors. Then NOx and propane injection. Then twin turbos ... .....

Have I left out any thing??

While the dodge tens are stout, they get spanked by the ford 5. 4 and ford ten... . unloaded. Load em up, and the dodge ten will WALK AWAY. Same relationship exists with stock CTD and tens, for the most part. Now the modified CTD will blow snot over most things out there.

I have spent a fair amout of time in the ford ten and PSD. while usually quicker off the line, throw a hill at them or a load, they will stat gasping, transmission will downshift and hunt a few times, and the rpms keep rising. No thanks, I'll take my slow revving ten that does not hunt on hills over a quick revver anyday.

left out...

Shooter, you left out the tire/rim upgrades. All that torque is gonna fry the stock tires. The increase will still do a number on the bigger/wider tires.

And don't forget the stickers saying you love the Cummins!

It may have been my post that you read about smoking a lightning. It was however one of the older ones, the new ones are SCREAMING fast! I've seen them run 13's at the dragstrip STOCK. To beat those kind of times you'll have to go pretty crazy and there's no way you'll be able to with 4. 10's. My best time is a 15. 73@88mph and am currently running in the low 16's at 87 or so. With 4. 10's and 285/75's the ECM starts defueling at right around 87 mph and you are all done at 97 mph (rev limiter) so you aren't going to get down into the 13's. You'd have to swap out to 3. 55's and get up in HVAC's mod range. Eating most V8 and V10's is no problem though - I regularly spank em on the street and the track.

Ummm..... if anybody wants to benchmark their BOMB setup against a pore ole worn-out junky (I guess I could even say sickly, but someone else has already used the term :D ) Dodge V-10, just let me know! ;) :) Better hurry, though - it's already sold, and I've got to hand it over when the 2002 ETH/DEE gets here. :D

it also depends on, at what speed you start your race. I never race "out of the hole" these things are too heavy to get moving that fast, that quick. I usually choose my races out on the highway. I am not scared to take on anything from 50MPH and up.

I have even raced Camaros and Corvettes and they cannot hang with me until about 110MPH, when I hit the wall. (3200 and out of RPM's)

Now, if I just had an auxilary overdrive :D

Thanks for all the info. I guess the best answer to the question would be: Money.

I would like to drive a truck with the DTT VB & TC combo, as that seems like the first hill on the long path to BOMBing oblivion. Is there anyone in the SoCal area I could hitch a ride with, or transmission shop that does the work and has one I could drive?

Again, thanks for the help.

I was going to say something about the Lightenings, but decided to goto bed this morning instead. I see Steve mentioned it already. The 2001+ Lightenings do not even attempt it. Factory they are 375hp. The new ones run 13. 31et @ 103. 82 (50°, 41% humidity, 30. 03absolute barameter). Had a 2. 07 sixty foot time. Ford is making 7500 of these this year. From the factory they are supercharged. I don't like the looks of the truck but I sure like the powertrain setup. This is a bone stock "Factory" truck here.

I'd shy away from the 01 Cobras too, unless your heavily modded it runs a 13. 5et 103. 38 mph bone stock.

My son's soccer coach bought a new Lightning about a month ago. The truck is unreal. The new ones are 385HP with 450ftlbs. The power is amazing... .coming out a a STOCK pickup. I drove it from 0 to about 130 mph. The thing pulls like crazy the whole time. There is NO letup whatsoever. There are some pulley mods and chips available that bring it to about 425HP. He is going to purchase the mods after he gets a few more miles under it's belt... . CJ

I raced a Ford lightning and it ran 13. 78@99mph, and I only ran a 15. 4. I'm going hunting for him in two weeks after running a 14. 08@94mph in very poor race conditions. I'm thinking that I will hit 13. 5@ about 95mph. :D :D

My 01 cobra only runs 14. 8@97mph due to traction problems and if I turn the traction control on it runs 15. 2@96mph

Not sure what "gasser" ya mean. I took a Ram 1500 gasser fairly easily, although he stuck with me. I have a 2500 QC LWB 4x4, his was a standard cab swb 4x4 1500, I figure he had a 2000lb weight advantage, and I stayed in front with a stock 215/420 Cummins.

Check my sig... . I have beat every gasser that has tried. Latest victim was a late 80's 5 liter mustang... . he tried but I won... did not even have to trun on the PE..... heheeheh

:D :D :D :D

to beat a gasser?

hehe, just use one tank of fuel, and load each truck with 10000#

you will beat him... . unless he has a couple of 80 gallon drums of gas in the bed
