Some have hinted at some surprises for model year '05 RAMS, including a larger full-size crew cab. Anyone (THAT CAN SHARE THIER INFO :D ) have any inside info?

i have also heard of some surprises for 05... I am greatly interested in finding out because I will probably be ordering an 05 right when they come out.

Images that sing, your site is too dark. Can't see product very well and certainly not enough to buy. FYI :) guesterman (who also lives by website).

I heard that in '05 the Cummins will no longer be available because parent company Ford is going to put it in their trucks to compensate for the shady beginnings of their new 6. 0L... . dunno how accurate this is. :p :p :D

I heard that in an attempt to draw more Ford and Chevy loyalists they're going to introduce leaking rear main seals, injectors that dump fuel into the crankcase, reduce power to near-zero below 2500 RPM, raise the redline to 6000 RPM, include automatic-clogging fuel injectors, and program the ECM to randomly increase idle RPM by 500 without any warning. :p

(That was mean, I know... sorry Ford and Chevy guys!)

How many years does the Dodge/Cummins partnership/contract have to go?

DC/Benz also owns Freightliner trucks and the Cummins engine is no longer available in those trucks. My brother is a salesman at a Freightliner dealership in Illinois.

I would buy a Dodge/Cummins truck before they put the axe to the Cummins engine.

well first of all cummins has a contract with dodge to supply them with engines in the rams til atleast 2007. and second of all ford does not own cummins in a anyway. all this info is available at the cummins website

Putting Rumors To Rest (Again)

I e-mailed Cummins this morning and thought I'd share their reply with you all:

Summary: Cummins / Ford ownership

Solution:

Thanks for your Email message. We appreciate your comments and you are well informed.

Currently, the Dodge/Cummins and the Ford/Navistar agreements are set for the next several years, and no announcements have been published that we are aware of, by either company, to change engine suppliers. We would not expect GM to use Cummins diesels in their pickups, since they are affiliated with Detroit Diesel, which is one of Cummins major competitors.

In 1994 Ford purchased 10% share of Cummins stock and currently uses the B5. 9 and C8. 3 engines in their F-series trucks larger than 1 ton. Ford uses the Navistar Power Stroke engine in their pickups, that are 1 ton or under. However, as of January 1, 1997, Cummins has purchased back all of the original shares from Ford, therefore Ford no longer has any direct financial connections with Cummins but they still buy some Cummins engines.

Also, we do not have published information on future product designs or vendor options that Dodge may or may not be planning. Cummins is happy to supply diesel engines to Dodge and would hope the relationship will continue well into the future.

Dodge has a twelve-year partnership with Cummins and has sold over 700,000 Cummins-powered Dodge Rams. This Dodge-Cummins partnership will continue in the next generation 2500/3500 series Dodge Ram pickup, launching in the 2003 Model Year. At this time, the Cummins / Dodge agreement will continue into 2007 and beyond.

Details:

I have a couple of questions for you that I'll bet you are tired of getting, sorry.

What is the real story about Ford's ownership of Cummins?

How long is the present contract with Dodge trucks good for.

I believe that Ford used to own quite a bit of Cummins stock, but no longer does and also that the contract with Dodge is until at least 2007.

I hope that you make the engines for Dodge forever, because that is why I keep buying them, '94, 98. 5 and now a '03 HO CTD. They just keep getting better. Thanks for the info and the fine product.

Because of the new EPA regulations Cummins has decided to move to diesel-electric engines for the 2005 Ram. The engine will still be located under the hood, but it will charge an electric battery that will be towed behind the truck, just like trains. Consequently, the battery will be adapted for both Class IV and Class V trailer hitches. Good for fuel economy and the environment, but bad in that when we tow, we will all be towing tandem trailers. There is also a rumor that we will have to upgrade our licenses to CDLs, and for those that make a living with their truck the driving limit will be set to 70 hours/week. :-laf

 I know this was meant as a joke, but all jokes aside my 03 is suffering from this at 4300 miles.

So nobody in the know is talking about 05?

I thought I saw someone (Kilby?) who had some good info on upcoming changes.

I hope Dodge has something up its sleeve. Chevy and Ford both have some major changes coming up in 05 from what I hear.

Please, please, please Dodge wake up and realize I'm not the only one who would trade in his 2nd gen QC for a real crew cab 3rd gen.

Hurry before my growing family prompts me to choose room over the mighty Cummins!

2004.5 Dodge

spoke to a friend of mine that works at DC. He was pretty sure that they are coming out with a Modified verion of the 48RE that is a 5 Speed. The HO will be in California snd the other Outlaw state if they make some EPA changes. I am sure one will be the EGR Valve.
