So far this year I've spent about $4200 on my truck: lift pump, injection pump, power steering pump, front & rear brakes (with rotors) and have 120,000 miles on my 2001. What's likely to be next that'll cost a bundle? When do you stop repairing and replace the truck? I've never kept any vehicle this long and for this many miles so I don't know when the swap point is. I know the engine can go on forever but when does it become not cost effective to stop fixing? Advice? Thanks.

Most of the old timers who are delivering RV's with their trucks tell me they trade at about 800k to 900k miles. Engine still running strong, rest of truck falling apart.

Recently had one driver tell me he had to replace the odometer on his '99 because it got stuck (at 999,999 miles!). He also told me he had replaced 20 lift pumps which comes out to about 50k miles each.

So there will always be things to fix, but it is an individual decision as to when it is worthwhile to update.
