I have a tinny sound coming from back of truck. It sounds like when you have a piece of gravel stuck in a drum bake. It sounds rythmic in nature. It sounds whether bakes are applied or not. I'm thinking maybe a dry u-joint? Any input appeciated.

Does the sound change pitch as you increase/decrease speed? Is the sound audible if you put the truck in neutral and coast? I chased a mystery sound on my truck, found the cause was a bad ball joint.

If I coast in neutral it still makes the sound. Sound is most noteable when coming to a stop. It occurs with brakes applied or not applied. I don't hear the sound when above 20 mph, but then again the Cummins is purring pretty good and I just don't think I can hear it over the motor.

After snowplowing the other day the noise has dissappeared. Maybe the backing up dislodged something? I'll let ya know if it comes back.

TnLracing... Yep it was the u-joint. Noise came back after a week so I was able to pinpoint it. Jacked rear end up and turned drive shaft and heard noise, then sprayed with WD40 and noise is gone. Going in tomorrow to have this done under warranty.
