Just wondering what the best oil for the front and back differential's is?Also should I run synthetic and if so what is the best kind and what viscosity??

THANK'S IN ADVANCE DAVE.....

Factory oil for the Differnetials

Check the service manual. Synthetics are required in the 03 and later AAM differentials. 75W-90 if memory serves, no friction modifier required. Do a search this has been discussed at length here before. Ken Irwin

Changed mine last night

Changed rear differential oil last night. Was suprised how little oil it held. I was also suprised at how dark the old oil was. Looked like carmel. Capacity was a little over 3 quarts. I have 20,915 miles on the truck. I know I'm beyond the recommended change interval. Don't tell Dodge OK! It will be our little secret. The gasket is easily reuseable. The bolts are 13mm with some kind of sealer or Locktite maybe on the threads. Not alot of debries in the bottom of the pumpkin, the normal gray metal silt. What did suprise me is the gear tooth contact area was not polished as I expected it to be. More like gray vice polished. I installed the Mag-Hytec replacement cover it holds nearly 8 quarts. I have one on the 97 also, great product. If you go this route you need to have a small amount of RTV to fill the hole as the bottom bolt is eliminated on the Mag-Hytec cover. There is a boss for the drain plug there instead of a hole for the bottom bolt. Based on the condition of the rear oil I will be changing the front oil to take a look at it soon. If you need the Dodge part number for the oil PM me and I can get it for you. Got the jug in the truck. Ken Irwin
