Whats the block heater wattage on the 6. 7's? I know the older 12v's ran at 750 but was told the 6. 7 was more like 1400+.

Thanks!

Just trying to get a timer for it... . :)

Owners manual says 6. 5 Amps, so at 110 volts thats 715W and at 120V thats 780W.

On my 5. 9 75-90 minutes of operation seems to be the perfect amount of time, maybe more if it was below 0*. But that gets me within 5-10* of leaving it plugged in overnight.

if you have a Home Depot hardware store, they have a great digital with battery backup that will run two vehicles at 2 different times if needed. It is made for outdoor use and I have run two block heaters along with my oil pan heater I use when its real cold here. The timer works great and you don't have to go through the trouble of resetting the timer if your power goes out a lot like mine does. It was under $30. 00 and has a life time warranty.

You are too funny? You phychic? LOL:D

THat is exacly where this started! I picked up one of those, got home and it occured to me. If I want to plug my truck in and the 6. 7, then will that overload the digital timer? I guess not! ;)

AH - Thanks as well! That answers that question too! Oo.

Thanks so much guys! :)

Is it bad to leave them plugged in ??? I'm at a motel using their dime so it's not costing me. Haven't had to use it in Oklahoma, but up here in Minnesota it's cold. .

I never thought it to be a big deal. Until 2 winter ago we had almost a month of -20 to -35 degrees and I left my truck plugged in when ever I wasn't driving it. Went on a weeks vacation and left the truck plugged in. Went to start the truck and it was a no go. Found out my block heater went bad. I've lived in AK over 30 yrs and have never had a block heater go bad. Tank heater yes. My wifes car was plugged in the whole time also and its still going strong. I guess the block heater is cheaply made because the stealership was selling them right and left. ($140) I bought mine at Schucks Auto Supply for I think $35. 00 750 Watt. Its been 2 winters and I'm finally going to replace it since I plan on driving the truck some this winter.

If though it might not cost you to plug in,it might end up costing money to replace the cheaply made heater. If your worried about your truck not starting,I always carry a hand held torch with a screw in bottle of propane and give my truck a few wifs of propane and she usually fires right up if its not too cold. I'm just sayin... ... ...

No, you can plug it in all the time. Just with it using 75o watt an hour, might cost ya a bit of electricity! ;)

Believe if my memory serves, costs about 5c and hour for the element to run.

The block heater takes about 1. 3 hours to charge a kWH. . So look at your kWH rate, for me thats about 5. 3c per hour. . so the timer is economical.

The heater on my 09 CTD does not warm up the engine nearly as much the one on my 04 CTD. It may be the same, or even double, the wattage but it doesn't work as good.

Who has the cord for sale? Living in AZ I probably wont need it but I think I'll add it any way. Never can tell where we might travel...

Can the cord burn out? I am in the process of replacing my heating unit and observed the end of the cord (which plugs into the heater) looks a little toasted. I'm wondering if this is the problem and not the heater itself.

I suppose the cord could have a bad connection where it connects to the block heater. If you have a meter, the block heater should measure around 19 ohms between the two pins. If it's a great deal higher than that, then the heater is probably bad.

The block heater cords fail far more often than the heater element its self does. It will look OK on the outside, but it is broke on the inside. And the end that plugs into the heater has been known to arc out as well. Need to keep the connection clean and put dielectric grease on everything. Don't forget to put anti-seize on the locking collar as well.

I've only had to replace 2 elements. One on a tractor and one on a skid loader. Both elements that went bad had been eaten through. Acidic coolant most likely. As soon as the coolant hits the wire inside of the copper tube, it shorts out.

i also put mine on a timer and got the timer from Lowe's as i work there anyways so i looked and got one of the mechanical with the flip out things, the timer was on sale got it for like 5$ and i run it off the porch which has a full roof so i can use it outside since no chance of weather being an issue. . i have mine set to start at 5am that gives me an hour and 15min before i leave for work.

Do you have a picture or part number couldnt locate this at my local HD.

Be fore-warned people. . DO NOT Run the engine when the heater is plugged in. . It causes static on the element and it burns out. Ask any Cummins parts man.

I have never heard this. If that is the case, I need to change my ways! I ALWAYS run the motor with it plugged in till I am ready to drive out!
