The color of the horn wire varies throughout the horn circuit. At what location are you trying to tap into the horn circuit? For example, at the horn itself, at the horn button on the steering wheel, etc. ?

I'm presently tapped at the horn itself, but want to cut the horn wire under the dash and put in a selector switch. Does the horn button apply 12 volts to th horn, or does it apply ground to the horn? I see there's no horn relay in the fuse box. My air horn soelenoid has crapped out anyway, so it will have to be replaced.

There is no wiring under the dash you can cut. The horn switches on the steering wheel just signal the control computer that you want the horn to sound. The computer sends a signal to the IPM (Integrated Power Module - box with fuses and relays under hood) to activate the horn relay.

Are you saying that the switches on the steering wheel are sending wireless signals? Are there transmitters built into the steering wheel?

They are sending a computer logic level signal (normally 5 volt or less) to tell that the horn switch has been pushed.

The horn switches on the steering wheel are the "negative trigger" to the horn relay (i. e. wired to relay terminal 87). The horn relay is located in the Integrated Power Module.

And does anybody have the wiring diagram handy to tell me the color of the wire (on an 03) between the clockspring and the brain box module thingy? I'm at my parents' house in Ann Arbor replacing my defroster door and related parts and while the dash is pretty much on the front seat, I thought I'd do some wiring. ;)

My factory horns don't work (yanked wires out becasue of false alarms) and my compressor for the train horns crapped out. I'm going to re-route the horn wire to an old fasioned relay and a pair of horns behind the grille.

20 gauge, black with red tracer. Same on both sides of the clockspring. Pin #6 on the clockspring C1 connector (the only 6 pin clockspring connector).
