Let me clarify. What are Nerf Bars. I see that term in a lot of signatures.

[Shovelhead]

Nerf bars are the side chassis and wheel protection bars you see on the side of sprint cars. Not too sure where the term came from, cuz' the on-line dictionary only shows the foam toy definition.

Big Mike:

"Nerf Bars" originated on the sprint
cars as "Shovelhead" said. However, they
are also used on racing four wheeler ATV's.
My son races them on the A. M. A. Quad Series
Races and in the Mid-Atlantic ATV Series.
On a four wheeler, they are placed in
between the front and rear tires on BOTH
sides to prevent another racer from
"ramming into you" between the front and
rear tires and possibly breaking your leg
or causing you to "flip".
