Any body get stuck in this??

The low lifes have now started hanging around the camp grounds. This past weekend we spent 3 wonderful desert days at a county park just outside Phoenix. On leaving yesterday the host asked if we were missing anything. Apparently a couple of free spirits (man & woman) made an early Sunday morning run through the group and family campsites helping themselves to whatever looked accessable.

Being an early riser (but too chilly to get up yet), I noticed the car described by the host sitting in front of my rig Sunday morning. I watched for several minutes but it drove off with no one getting out. Thought it was peculiar. It was and now I know why.

Oh, and the thefts occured mainly to the group of people who had befriended them, even to the point of sharing a turkey day meal.

So heads up, eyes open and keep your options available !

LizzyHermit. What campground was it, and where? What kind of car? You just can't be too careful, now-a-days! Joe F. (Buffalo)

White Tank County Park

the vehicle is a SUV import wanna be, white, small, 4 door.

man and woman, late 20's / early 30's and the guy plays a flute.

Thanks, Lizzyhermit. I had a feeling that might be the park. I have some friends that have stayed there, in the past. I'll pass the warning on to them. Thanks, again. Joe F. (Buffalo).

I got one for you. Not only do you have to watch the parks, but you have to watch the truck stops too. I drove to Oregon a couple of years ago and stopped in Bakersfield at a truck stop to catch some sleep. I woke up to a funny noise, that sounded familiar, it was the motor for my landing gear. I slowly worked my way out of bed got dressed and found some idiot outside trying to unhook my hitch, which luckily I had a lock on it. After holding him until the police arrived I found out he was attempting to steal my truck out from under the trailer, he didn't know I was in the trailer according to the police. Luckily he didn't get the chance to break into my truck. I found out that night lock your hitch and put a locking cover over the power switch to the landing gear.

I always lock the coupler on my trailer, hitched or not. And after stopping and being away from the rig, I always check the pin in the hitch reciever. I talked to a fellow gypsy a while back who said some real low life pulled the clip from his reciever pin and partially removed the pin.

Some think we are paranoid, but I say NO, I'm just careful ! I hate surprises, especially those that can injure.

for us newbies ... what's the best way to lock a Reese 5er hitch... it has a cheesey flip over latch on the pin release handle

that doesn't look like a good way to lock it

Why not get a locking receiver pin?
