Tonight after driving about 50 miles when I shut the truck off I heard this loud winding down sound from near the firewall on the passenger side it was almost a howling sound, farely loud. I restarted the truck and it did it again. I wasn't able to determine if it was turbo related are what. My truck is a 2001 with a 5 speed. Any ideas?

sounds like it's turbo related---check the obvious first--loose down pipe, loose turbo bolts to exhaust ---loos exhaust manifold bolts---take the intake hose off and see if there's excessive movement of the turbo shaft---chris

Maybe you just noticed it..........

But my turbo spools down everytime. I don't always notice it because of ambient noise in the area. If you concentrate on it you'll always hear it. Start worrying when it doesn't spin down!

What he said! Mine does it every time as well. Usually can only hear it when I'm in the garage.

I freak out if I dont here mine spool down.

But if this noice isnt something youve noticed before ie its above the spool down noice then you might have a problem. So like above check EVERYTHING for tightness and that they are to torque.

Turbo noise

Yup,

It's the turbo winding down. Mine does it also after the engine is warmed up. Can really hear it when I pull into the garage:cool:
