I just ran into an old friend that I havent seen in about a year, he has an 04 F-350 CC LB 4x4 with the 6. 0 and Automatic. He was telling me he had to bring it in for 2 different recalls for the trans, and the worst part is that after the second transmission reflash he had no tow/haul function. We're all aware of the various 6. 0 flashes, anybody know about the transmission problems??

Other than what I read in an earlier post about a piece coming off inside the transmission and popping a hole in the side of the transmission about the size of a dime. That's probably what the recall is for. Checking to make sure the snap rings are sized correctly.

my friend bruce just had his 04 in the shop for the reverse pin backing out on the planetary gears. i didnt think there was anything wrong untill i was with him and the truck just stopped moving as we were backing up. i looked at him and he said, "shut up i know its a ford" :-laf just got the truck back yesterday, seems to be a ok, ill have too look at everything that was done to it.

I have two 6. 0's here at the shop. I love the transmission in that truck. I wish it could be behind my Cummins. It shifts great, downshifts at the right time in Tow/Haul, and is generally a smooth transmission.

The only complaint I have is when they replaced the turbo under warranty (25K) on my '04 F450 Flatbed (and a couple of injectors), they must have re-flashed the computer. I must have lost 10 to 20 percent of the power. It used to be quick, but now it's not. When you mat the pedal it takes a looooong time for the motor to come up to power. It used to be nearly instant.

Ford has issued a recall on transmissions produced during a specific time frame. According the info I got, there was a batch of defective retaining rings installed over several months by Ford. When the rings failed, it caused the transmission to partially fail. I've talked to some Ford owners who say Ford is taking a long time to fix their transmissions due to backlog of failed transmissions.

Don't know where the Q. C. boys were the day that shipment of rings came in.

My dad's boss is currently working on his 3rd Super Duty with the 6. 0L since the 03 model year. First 2 were both buybacks. His 05 also started slipping in reverse about a week ago!

Wow!!! 3 trucks... ..... you would think he would have learned after the first and definitely after the second. This guy needs to go back and finish high school.

Thats how F*rd can say they sell so many trucks. They buy so many back that they inflate their sales numbers from selling the second and third to the same person!!!!!!! :D

Funny to see all you guys poo-pooing Ford... . from what I read on the 3rd gen boards, you have a lot more to be upset about with Dodge.

What I do like about Ford is when they find something wrong, they recall it. At least they are trying to make a wrong a right... which is a heck of a lot more than DamilerChrylser would ever do for it's dedicated and loyal customer base.

Take the 53 Block issue with the 2nd gens. Everyone, including Dodge and Cummins, know a casting error was made yet they refuse to recall the blocks. In fact, they refuse to admit there is even a problem... until the block cracks then they cross their fingers and pray you are out of the warranty period. By contrast, Ford just last month Ford recalled F150s as far back as 1997 for a bad cruise control switch.

I am a Dodge/ Cummins owner and I really like my truck (in fact, I'm having over $1,000 of add-ons put on today) but, when it comes to the "Big Three", I know who stands behind their product the most... and it ain't DC.

That's because they were burning houses down catching on fire in the garage. Atleast the Dodge only falls apart on the road. :-laf

thats a funny statement about Ford and recalls seems to me there were a lot of "ok" Exploders running around the roads killing people and Ford says it isn't their problem... along with many other "issues" in their vehicles. I am not saying Dodge does not have their fair share as I work for a dealer but I do not agree that Ford is the most willing to admit things. Anyhow I realy posted to say my Buddy who has an 05 Excursion has just taken in his with only a few 1000 on the clock for a transmission replacment but even worse when he was taking it in it stalled and could not keep it running at all, pretty bad his new rig had to be pushed into the dealer lot off the main street with its paper plates; so obviously they realy have not fixed things as his is an 05...

The BIG 3, their names says it all corporate AMERICA at its best! They will try and sometimes do get away with stuff like that, it all comes down to numbers(PROFIT) and thats all they care for. build it as cheap as possible while meeting certain specs and safety, but from the lowest bidder and add one hell of a mark up for profit for upper management and screw the rest of the people.

A neighbor of mine, who is a mechanic, finally replaced a Powerstroke after replacing the auto. for the "eighth" time. Replaced it with an '04, 6. 0.

He hadn't even got his plates for it, yet, when after taking it to the dealer for an oil change, his motor died. The dealer used 10w-30 in the change. The neighbor had put an Edge box on and was driving it hard when it cooked. Burned up a piston, scored cylinder walls and bearings.

Ford took the engine apart and said it would not warranty it. Gave it to him in a box. He rebuilt it himself and it seems to run OK, now. Has more power than before. (BTW, he took two oil samples and had them tested to confirm the 10w-30 oil. )

He just told me that he ordered a new '05 with everything on it. He tried ordering a new one twice, recently. The first time the sent a shortbed when it should have been a longbed. The second time, the salesman quit his job before ordering the truck, so no order went through.

I suggested that a Dodge would be much cheaper, initially. But, he needs a real crewcab for his family.

After all the problems he has been having with the Ford's I would be scared to death to buy another one.
