Whats with the rotors?

I just had my brakes done at 52,000 miles. The original pads still had 40% left but I had to replace the rotors because they were worn too far to resurface. I also had to replace both rear axle seals and one rear brake cylinder. needless to say I am not impressed with the factory parts. What would cause the pads to outlast the rotors? I have never had a problem with early brake wear in 30 years of driving. When I pull a trailer it always has brakes. I just expected the rotors to outlast the pads on this truck. #ad

The pads... The harder the metal in the pads the harder they are on the rotors. Some metal is necessary for wet weather stopping and pad life, so it's a trade off as usual. I myself would rather have soft pads that stop great but wear fast. I'm a slow poke when it rains anyway #ad

I've never heard of the rotors being worn down when they have never been turned. If the pads wern't down to metal why were they going to turn the rotors? Do you have the thickness that they told you the old rotors were? I could check it in my service manual. I just did my pads for the first time (47,000 miles). They still had a fair bit of pad left. I suspect that they had the wrong minimum specs for the rotor thickness.

Sam P. I will try to make it by your shop on my next trip up. I kept the old rotors so you can look and see what you think. If I had run the brake pads down to nothing I wouldn't be surprised. Even so I'm happy with the truck as a whole. Thanks

I run performance friction carbon matalic pads, and have never even had to cut the rotors! (80K miles, on 3rd set of pads)
