Here's the prob. Fan work great on 1, 3, and 4. But 2 is intermittant. Sometimes it will work fine while othertimes it is like it turns off. Rather then go out and trouble-shoot I thought I would find someone who has already done the trouble-shooting. What part do I need to fix it. Part #'s would be great too. ;)

My fan motor on my 96 doesnt blow for the love of god...

erik

also when the air or vent is on, it is only suppose to blow out the top and it blows out both... . good design huh! lol:confused:

Check for leaks in the vacuum lines that control the distribution system. I'm the proud owner of a brandy new OEM blower motor. Only have 316k on the original. Watch that the condensation drain hose doesn't get plugged with crap and cause the water that's supposed to drain out the hose to find another way to relieve itself. Likely will fall down onto the blower motor and short things out. Have a Ford hose was always plugging up on it also. I have no idea why one fan speed would be erradic, maybe a problem with a relay.

Cheers,

Steve J

I am strictly talking fan SPEED. Everything else works fine. Low, med high, and high work fine. It is only med low that works intermittedly. I am hoping that it is not the motor though I would think that if it was the motor then it wouldn't work at all.

I have never been into the HVAC system on my truck (thankfully) but I have worked on alot of other vehicles and a good number of them have a simple resistor block that provides for different speeds. If I was trying to run down this problem that is where I would start. I'm at work and don't have my FSM in front of me, but it is common for the resistor to be mounted in the air stream somewhere near the blower motor. It'll probably have a plug with three or four wires going to it.

I'll look at the FSM this evening and see if I can provide better info if someone else doesn't tell you more before then.

Good luck,

Mike

Sounds like the switch is bad on the med low setting. It's not in the blower motor. Find a switch at the local junk yard and change it out.

This is what I suspect it is. Anyone know what a new one will run me?

... If you hafta ask, ya probably can't afford it... ;) :D

I agree - bad switch - if the resistor block was intermittant, other settings would also be affected, unless it is only the tap at the specific speed selection...
