It was freakin cold this morning! When I went out to start my truck it was -12! And what did I forget to do???? Plug in my truck of course. I never forget to plug in my truck. . and yet i forgot the day it was going to be -12!

That's life.

Oh well, I just cycled my plugs twice and the old girl fired up. She was missing on a couple... but she started and after a minute or so it smoothed right out. My neighboor who has a 2001 Powersmoke couldn't barely get his to turn over. He never plugs that thing in.

There's another testiment to how awesome the CTD is!

Last year in Williams AZ I got mine to start when it was 8 out. I don't have my grid heater even hooked up! It took about a minute to get it running but it finally started.

fairly cold

Unplugged my truck will cold start down to about -20 *F on straight #1. However, with a little fuel conditioner I've fired it up down to -25*F. Runs a touch rough for a while though, hehe. Whether or not it starts usually has alot to do with how strong your battery is.

Plug it in and it will fire first crank down to at least -40*F. Drives a bit "stiff" though.

-38°C which is about -37°F outside without a plugin in my 1989. .

I was thankin my lucky stars that I switched my oil to 0W-40 or I never would have got it going. Fired up and I boosted a Mercedes Diesel car beside me while I was warming up. . LOL. .

I've gotten mine to start at around 20 below. Keep in mind I run 15w-40 year round. Last year it was about -30 one night I forgot to plug it in and the thing didn't have a prayer of starting.

I did a -10 F start this year... . only let the heaters run for about 5 sec because I wanted to see what she had. No problem.

Usually I have the block heater going for about 2 hours before I fire up in the am... . niced to have heat after a few miles.

:D

She sat for 9 hours unplugged in -20* and after 2 cycles, she fired up on 3 (I think), I left on 4, and a mile later I had all 6 running. That was a nervous few minutes, though.

I have started mine it -20+. It complains a little. It takes two cycles of the heaters. But I can't blame for complaining. You should hear me before I go out there to start it. :D

I have started mine down to about -8. Here in COlorado it doent get that cold very often. Recently, I have had trouble getting it to stat below +20. Could a heater relay have died? It starts about as well as the older big camIIIs I have driven for a farmer down the road from where I grew up- takes a good 30-40 sec to get it going. Other CTDs have fired down to -10 or so w/o plugging in. FWIW- the Ford 6. 9 will go down to about 10 unplugged. Darn near runs the batteries down, but it eventually sputters and goes. I grew up in southeast Missery, and it had been 15 years or so since it got below 0.

My 2001 started at -20 F a couple days ago without being plugged in. :)

My 91 started at -25F more than once without being plugged in, a couple times after sitting for a few days in the cold weather too. I always run 15W-40 Rotella oil. I ran mine at -40 once and had to jump a bunch of other vehicles, because mine was about the only thing running, but that was after being plugged in.

Just cylce it a couple times and she will start in as cold of weather as most fuel injected gas engines will, although she will be a little growly about it. ;)

-28*F a few times this season. I have never plugged my truck in because electricity isn't available near my truck yet. I haven't seen temps in the morning above 15*F in about 3 months. When it is cool outside (15 on up) one cycle of the heater. When it is Chilly (5-14*f) 2 cycles. when it gets a little cold out (down to -30) I use 3 heater cycles. At that point my engine starts at 1000RPM and idles up to 1250 and 3 cylinder idle within 15 seconds. I use Amsoil 15w40 HDD.

It was -27 F when I got home from work this morning, and she started w/o being plugged in. Warmed it up twice and fired her up, no problem. :D

My best unplugged was -42 F in Wyoming with 0W-40 synthetic oil in the crankcase. Mostly #1 diesel and additive as I recall. I did not expect a start and was fairly surprised and pleased when it did roll and catch. Quite noisy and smoky for the first minute or so. The Ford Powersmokers didn't even stand a chance and they were plugged in!!

25 below 0 here in Michigan, I let the grid heaters cycle once. Sounded real bad at 5:20 AM! In Grayling and Gaylord the Public schools have International TD444e's and they would not start. Both cities canceled school!
