2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Annoying Steering Clunk

I have had a problem in the past with having some steering wheel play. Over the last couple weeks i have noticed a vibration noise, along with some sloppy feeling in the right wheel. is this a wheel bearing, or maybe a problem with the track bar, and stabilizing system. I replaced the ball joints just about a year ago. also I had it in the air, and did not notice the usual play in the wheel associated with wheel bearing problems, everything was pretty solid, with really no play.

Are you a 2x4 or 4x4? Have you checked the balance on your tires lately? Have you checked the tire rod ends?

Wheel bearings should show up as having some wheel movement, tipping in and out.

It is 4x4 what are you considering the tie rod. I had them balanced and rotated about 800 miles ago. it doesn't feel like a balance thing it feels like that side is going to fall apart when you're goin down the road it doesn't feel bad making a right had turn but when you're going straight, or making a left hand turn. There is no wheel play in and out, tilting top and bottom would be a ball joint problem, and everything is solid there also, i was thinking it might be something to do with the stabilizer, or the track bar.

Some things to check for a wheel bearing problem.

drive the vehicle if there is a grumbling noise that changes with speed, and gets worse when turning to one side and less noisy on the other most likely

a wheel bearing.

when turning left the weight gets transferd to the right side = right bearing.

turning right=left bearing.

now as for grabbing the tire and moving the top and bottom in and out as one movement (push top in and pull bottom out) can tell if there is movement in the hub meaning its worn.

Ive also experienced no play in a bearnig, but it was making noise.

come to find out after taking it apart (hub/bearing type unit) found one of the ball bearings had a flat spot causing the noise.

hope this helps.

With it up in the air , have a 2nd person wiggle the steering wheel back&forth 4-6" and get under looking for eccess movment in ft end , look for bad axial u-joints by grabing the wheel and axial and spon wheel ft to r a couple inches . I do not want to assume anything , but also are you familier with the vibration you'll get with a warped rotor ?

May sound strange but, check the upper & lower shocks for tightness. The bolt on my r/hand side was so darn tight I had to use a breaker bar w/cheater pipe and use my legs to break loose. However, the shock was still loose - steel sleeve in rubber bushing @ shock bottom was never pinched between the two ears in the mounting area so the shock "rattled" BIG time when going down the road allowing this to be felt as a tapping on the pass front floor. Replaced both bottom bolts when I put on new shocks.
