well I pulled my front rotors off to grease the bearings and found drivers side getting loose and noisy( pass was still good )so I call the local parts store and was told $374 per side:mad: there has to be better prices out there? anybody buy them for less or possible bearing replace I know they say you cant rebuild but when they were assembled they put new bearings in:-laf (03 2wd 3500 single wheel)

I've not had a 2wd truck apart... but I've pulled several 4wd front ends apart, put bearings in a press and pressed them apart, cleaned them, re-greased them, pressed them back together and installed them... .

On the 4wd model the bearings were available from a industrial bearing supplier, like Kaman Industrial Bearing, for a lot less... .

You can source the bearings separately if you're so inclined to attempt to replace them yourself.

Search for a thread by RBattelle i think? His name is Ryan, and from Ohio... anyway maybe that'll get you close.

He found a bearing (I think SKF?) that works...

wow nice find I should have looked under hub. after search of skf found 2wd #br930475 hub assembly 4wd#br930502. (check these # before odering) called e. b. atmus and was told that the automotive line was pulled away last year. wonder why that was? so now I will have to find another route. thats what I like about this site always good info. thanks mike

Anyone who is an SKF distributor should be able to get those bearings. What did they mean "pulled the automotive line"? Who pulled it - SKF or EB?

Is SKF no longer making those bearings?

On edit:
Answered my own question. SKF is still making those bearings, so EB Atmus must've decided they don't want to sell the automotive line from SKF anymore. Here's a link to the SKF online automotive catalog, which lists BR930502 as the correct bearing.

Seems to me a simple matter of finding another SKF bearing dealer. I know there are a lot out there.

eb could get the bearing but it would cost the same as dodge where as they used to sell them for less. and im told they sold alot before the change. I checked with kaman and they made a call to skf because they did not have any info on that part. (call back mon) these are the part # I found during this search timken sp550103 / bca515089 all 2wd #s. I dont mind spending the money but the price is all over the map 185. 00-374. 00. I wish I could run my buisness that way just charge the most someone would pay.

I'd bet that's our fault. After I found out how to buy them cheap, and posted it, Dodge and SKF caught wind of it and fixed the pricing. :(

Before I posted the info, I debated with myself whether I should, knowing what might happen. But I figured it was better to let people know so that at least some of us could get them cheap.

so now you feel bad enough to buy me a set:-laf:-laf:-laf

This is a complete assembly... . as I recall just the bearing and inner race are available... but I don't know if I can find the part #'s from when I bought them...

The races are part of the bearing hoousing and not a separate piece... you can only replace the bearings, but not the races. Add to the fact that these bearings can also wear the surface (not the race) the bearing rides on (causing looseness) and that is part of the housing...

A lot of people get confused... they are not serviceable if you have a mechanical issue (i. e. bearing fails). They are only "serviceable" to add more grease to prolong the inevitable (i. e. preventative maintenance).

Geez Joe, hadn't really thought about buying and selling..... I don't have a clue what I can do with a suitable quantity... . I'm also a Federal Mogul distributor... maybe I should ask them if its available...

I'm looking forward to dinner on Friday... .

I thought that was the business you were in.

Maybe you could make a few extra bucks and also provide something to the members here that they seem to need too often

I'm looking forward to Friday also. I hope the weather holds up there. 4X2 fatbut truck in the snow I don't think would be a lot of fun.

Joe, my main business is clutches, brake shoes, air compressors, fan clutches for class 5-8 trucks, more so on the big end than the lower end... and industrial friction... we used to be big in engine brakes, first with Jacobs and 25 years ago we switched to Pac... but that business has more or less gone away as those features are now installed by all engine manufactures at the assembly line... just like cruise and air on your car... from the aftermarket to the OE's... But I guess we buy 10,000 to 12,000 bearings a year. .

However Federal Mogul wasn't interested... . I'll go back to our other supplier, who quoted the lower number and see whats up tomorrow...
