After looking at Kerm's wheel post today about his 22. 5" semi wheels it got me thinking. Of course Ricksons seems to have the monopoly on "heavy duty" wheels for our trucks as of now... and I know Alcoa is "working" on them as well.
Yes I know the "wheel" issue has been beat to death but I figured what the hay.
In other forums on here it's been discussed about fed-ex trucks and UPS trucks and their wheels... but it did not pan out.
Now I know buses, RV's, and other "utility" type vehicles (delivery turcks etc) use wheels ranging from 16. 5" all the way up to 24. 5" depending on the vehicle and it's intended use.
I'm sure a lot of folks already know this but I came across a tire today meant to fit a 17. 5" wheel. One was a G load rated 33. 1" tall tire and the other was an H load rated 33. 7" tire. Now I know I only hit the tip of the iceberg in finding "commercial" truck tires so I am certain there must be more sources for a 17. 5" wheel/tire combination out there. I think this would be a good option as we're sitting on 17" wheels already so a 17. 5" would not be a "drastic" change and tires should be readily available unlike the 17" that we have only a few "decent" options and sizes.
I've searched here and found our axle/lug pattern for the 3rd gens (having AAM axles) is said to be 8 X 6. 5"... . is this right???
There are A LOT of RV and commercial truck centers in my area and I am wanting to do some searching to see what other options we have... there has to be a viable INEXPENSIVE choice for wheels for us.
If anyone else has insight or information it would be much appreciated... especially concerning the 17. 5" wheel/tires available and what other applications they may be used on.
