Heads up to those affected by the recall
Truck is a 2018 dually
Received a note from FCA today in mail today that the remedy for the wheel stud recall is not currently available. They will contact when a remedy is available.
I tow a 14K fifth wheel and am somewhat concerned since there is pretty heavy real axle loading.

I received my 2nd one today... I think they are waiting to see how many wheels fall off to assess the impact and determine how to act. Mine aren't overtightened on my 5500, so no worries!

we had these tires fall off a f550 last week. what i believe happened is a tire shop over tightened them beyond the yield point. that allowed some forward/backward lash of the wheel on the axle hub ( i could see where the wheel stud hole was slopping back and forth radially and digging into the stud like a axe). then over time it finally sheared them off. this is one reason nobody touches any part of my vehicles but me

The chance of a problem are slim. But it depends on who if anyone had the wheels off.

I've had mine off as I've rotated them myself 4 times. My 5-Star Dealership had the left front off in 2019 to replace the antilock brake unit... they didn't overtighten it though. I remember checking and thought it was strange FCA put a TQ range. I had 135Lb Ft TQ on my former 2009 Ram 4500. That's what I put on my 5500 too.

LMAF Seriously!!! 130Ft-Lb for Cone and 129Ft-Lb for Flanged A 1 Ft-Lb difference, Someone has rocks for brains.

I know that this is a serious topic. but the revised instructions.

Yeah seems crazy, especially with the average tolerance of a torque wrench.

Being a safety recall they likely had to be gnats arse accurate to appease some lawyer, which leads to this kind of
thing.

Mine are flanged and they said 130’#.

That doesn’t match the recall or the revised manuals.

129… while not much different they did make a point to make it 129 and not 130, not that it likely matters.

Our 2014 3500 DRW welding truck had all of them shear off. He pulled over into a pull out along the hi way to make a few calls and check emails and when he put it in drive to go the truck barely moved. When he got out everything looked normal. After he called me he tried again and then the hubcap fell off revealing the cause. The truck operated totally normal leading up to this, no vibrations etc., just pulled over and obviously the last few let loose just at that moment. Thank God this didn't happen at hi way speeds which he was doing when he stopped!!
And of course studs are on a national back order. They got this one fixed, but we have three more DRW welding trucks and two personal DRW trucks yet to do and be checked.
Not a comforting thought!
