Will the rims off a 2nd gen 3/4 ton truck fit a first gen 3/4 ton truck or did they change bolt patterns when they changed body styles? Thanks

Been wondering the same thing. I want a set of 2000 3/4 aluminum rims on my 89 if they'll fit.

1999 3500 4x4 Chassis cab Emerald green ISB 5 spd 4. 10 K&N Filter straight exhaust 9 ft flatbed definitely in need of MORE POWER!!

The bolt pattern did not change on any of the wheels but there might be differences in the set back. I don't have the specs but I would guess that the 2nd gen chrome wheel would fit just fine. If you go to the 2nd gen forum you will see a y2k wheel post that suggests that the aluminum wheel would fit the older (94-99) trucks with some wheel and brake drum mods. Not sure what it would take to install on a 1st gen.

1ST GEN. GUYS:
Allow me to offer some info on replacement wheels for the '88 - '93 trucks.
I'd suggest you stick with a Zero offset wheel, with a back space dimension of 4" to 4 1/2". , not wider than 8". This comes from 152k miles of experience. Your suspension and wheel bearings will like you for it.
the 2nd Gen. trucks have wheels with a severe backspace dimension, similar to a front wheel drive car. This is to allow for the sealed "lifetime" bearing unit design on the front axle. The wheels, if placed on a 1st. gen. truck would have the effect of the center hub staying in place, while moving the wheel rim and tire toward the inside of the truck.
In short, the 2nd gen. wheels are made to accomodate the "new improved" axle design, and still stuff the tires within the fenders, by back spacing the wheel hub. They MAY fit the bolt pattern, and they surely will look odd, and probably would whack the front discs.
The 1st. gen trucks have a 6 1/2" x 8 lug pattern, with 1/2-20 rh lugs.
the 2nd. gen. is 6 1/2" x 8 with 9/16 lugs.
Wheel backspace is the distance from extreme back (inside) edge of rim, to the mounting pad.
Wheel offset is the distance from the wheel's centerline to the plane of the wheel hub. Zero offset is the center of the rim.
This is offered as a help before you spend your hard earned cash. Check aftermarket good quality wheels, like American, or Mickey Thompson, before you lay it out for D/C.
Regards.

Thanks Old School, That about covers it. I'm continually impressed by the wealth of practical knowledge exhibited by the members of this group. Where do ya'll learn all this stuff? I'm a newbie though, it'll come, I guess.

Glad to assist. As another visual help... look at the 2nd gen. trucks. The wheels have less "depth" than the 1st gen. Thats the backspace effect I had described.
American Racing and Mickey Thompson have a great website - check it out.
Have fun.

If I recall correctly, the 1st gen wheels had about 3/4" offset. This means that the mounting surface is 3/4" away from being in the center of the wheel. The 1994-9 wheels have about 15/16" offset. Should be OK to use them on a 1st gen truck, I would think.

My '93 dually has 5/8-18 studs. I think All 350's (Flanged Nut) and DIESEL 250's (Cone Nut) get them. One other combo that might have them would be a GAS W250 with the DANA 60 front axle option-VERY RARE (about $1200 in '93). The light duty versions are 1/2-20.

Outstanding exchange on wheels. I learned a lot. What ever happened to the project someone had on powder coating their wheels, I thought that was a great idea we could all do at a reasonable price.

Ah man! Don't take any shortcuts guys. My truck looks so bad a®® with the American Racing Bajas 16X10" I put on there that I couldn't imagine having anything else on there! Everyone said my truck was ugly before and the rims were the turn around point for the looks of my truck. Well worth spending $100-200 a piece.
