the place i got my 215 hp truck from said he had the dealer set the timing after he couldn't get it right, well somebody got it wrong not sure who but i just set it to 16* 5. 6mm and it was 4. 67mm which according to the chart i was looking at is 11-11. 5* now i know why it ran like crap when cold. while i was at it i was killing a oil leak or two and double checking the kdp, while i was talking to him about the work that was being done before i bought the truck and i asked if he would check the kdp, "it's been fixed, never seen one fixed like that one" bull@#$% atleast it was only out a sixteenth or so, so i made a tab and locktighted it in and thats one less thing to worry about, the only thing i really don't like is it looked like some gashole got after the tapered part of the pump shaft with a pair of pliers (even had a couple small marks on the threads), not wanting to do any more damage i just cleaned it well and torqued it to 140lb

Well if the tapered shaft is buggered up it might be more prone to having the timing slip. So they might have actually set that correctly. Not that I'm defending the seller... I heard a whole lot of crap from sellers when I was looking for my truck: "dowel pin, why I've been dealing dodges for 10 years I've never heard of it"... or "53-block, my tech says there's no such thing".

i thought about it slipping with that shaft but it's run just as crappy in the mornings the whole 4 months i've had it with no change other then when i fix something, loose idle stop bolt buzzing to different settings, no guts in the of valve, wimpy 160 horse injectors, many air leaks around the afc and now unscrewed up timing, piggy is running pretty good now, boost is about the same but egt is down a good 150 or more at interstate cruising speeds

swell, i didn't want to go more and really screw it up, what was that i read around here $800 shaft and $500 to install it if you strip the threads, maybe all of the little lumps and bumps in the gear and on the shaft will act like splines

after driving it all day all there is to say is sweet, i have chevy/ford squashing ability with almost no smoke, must mean it needs more fuel :D

Two things, The dealer is only going to time at stock levels, a garage will do what you ask with in reason, on timing, and might give advise on the numbers. The 140# torque has been found to be a little low on this nut, and succsess has been found at 160#.

But you know, not all dealers do stock settings. I had mine in for pump tower leak, and asked to put a little more power in it. The plug in the AFC, [star wheel] had been opened and an adjustment had been made, much to my suprise.
