I am looking for those of you with a Horton Fan to give me some idea when your Horton kicks in.

I am not so interested in when it kicks in from a hard pull, hot day or speeds over 20 mph..... I am more interested in warm to cool days, idling, stop lights. Speeds under 20 mph.

With 180K on my 96, I have a good understanding of how warm my truck runs and with winter starting today (forcast for snow) I've been running without the clutch fan and plan on leaving it off all winter. I have no concerns what so ever once over 20mph but I am a little cautious when speeds go below 20 or stopped (AC condensor).

I have notice a . 5 to maybe 1 mpg gallon improvement and a very quiet running Cummins w/o the fan.

Thanks for any advice Horton owners!

I've had mine on for two years, It only runs with A/C on, in the parking lot and in very slooooo traffic. Get up to speed in a 1/4 mi. it shuts off. I used to pull the fan off, it got to be a pain and on my rig the a/c runs w/defrost. I like the Horton, it works well.

Ditto to what CPFF says. It only comes on when I have the a/c on, and even then it's only for a few seconds when stopped at a red light or crawling in bumper to bumper traffic. When I'm going to be shutting off the engine after a long hot drive, I turn it on with the included on-off switch to help cool the engine down.
I can only think of one time that the fan stayed on while I was moving, and that was driving around Bakersfield in the middle of August. It was like 110 degrees outside, and I had a bunch of family members in my truck dressed for a funeral, so I kept the a/c on high all the time. The fan stayed on, but the temperature stayed in the normal range.
IMO, the Horton should be standard equipment from the factory.

So anyone know of a good source (good price) for the Horton fan clutch? I remember reading a while ago that they were thinking about dropping that model. Thanks.

I bought mine from Blue Chip, had best price & in stock, I know he still has them avail.
