I lost my lift pump Saturday night. . so I ordered one from Genos today, next day air... hope it shows tomorrow morning. . but... since my batteries are 10 yrs old, i have now found out they have no cranking reserve. . trying to get the truck to fire to limp it home... they crank for not even ten seconds and end up too low to crank over the mighty cummins. so, I get to spend $$ on batteries too... I know i've been playing that lottery too long...

and to top it off, the wife took me to work in her car... . and..... yep, it broke down on the way back to her job... . the rear caliper locked up...

i need a lot of alcohol... . LOL and maybe a 3rd car for backup. .

The 10 year old batteries might be part of the lift pump issue.

I have found my '01 does not like one battery. The last time I changed them (3rd set now) I had to order some hold down hardware from Dodge so I just installed one while I waited on parts. All sorts of small issues popped up until the second battery went in.

The lift pump showed up at 9:15 am, and was installed by 10 am. . i had the batteries on a charger for 4 hrs (since 6 am) I tried to buy new ones last nite (at 1am) , but the local wally world didnt have any in stock.

After installing the lift pump, cleaning terminals on batteries and connectors and repairing one bad one, the truck fired up.

the code on sat was for lift pump circuit open. after cranking several times, i got a code for low ecm voltage too..... today, I cleared the codes and started it. . no codes. . not even the ecm low voltage. (I'm assuming this triggers during cranking mainly) I do still plan on replacing the batteries, but I got to run to Orlando to p/u a friend from Ohio first.

I want to thank Geno's Garage, and Robin specifically, for getting my order in and shipped out next day air. I had the part in 20 hrs from order placement time. :)

E7- did you get any advance warning that your pump was going to die? i assume that you have the pump that is on the rear of the filter canister, like my 04 does. last week i replaced both original batteries, i figured i have gambled long enough. . how difficult is the pump replacement? i have been considering calling Geno's for one, as an "insurance" policy- if i have it, i won't need it. .

no warning... just quit ... it is easy to change in theory, but a little hard to get to for me. . i'm used to class 8 chassis. There are 4 - 5mm hex screws, and one electrical connector and the fuel line disconnect. The electrical connector had been untouched in close to 10 yrs. . took 15 minutes to get it to come loose and another 15 min to actually swap out. . the batteries were not an issue in failure. Ima still replace as I am going to Ohio next month and cold weather is harder on a battery cranking wise.

I will post the engine hours on the pump, as it is high. Hour wise, the truck has an equivalent of 200K+ miles.

ok, thanks. i have been peeking around lately under the hood in preparation for the day. look me up, i recently put up a photo of my filter housing in a thread, it is literally disintegrating around itself. i figured more guys would have ones like mine, but apparently not  it looks like a doable project, although i will need to be very careful as to not destroy any brake lines under the hood by the reservoir. last i checked a few weeks back, i think i saw 2111 hrs at 70k.

I stop making these Dual brackets I do have 5 left, When there gone thats it, You can leave 1 unplugged or go with the In-cab switch for both running or just 1.
