I thought my starter was going out because I was having intermitten starting problems. I started getting clicking sounds from the starter when I turned the ignition switch but if I persisted it would start. First thing I suspected were the batteries and low and behold one of them was kaput. So, I replaced the batteries and thought that solved the problem and had no problems for a couple of days. Then, what's that French word, ?dejavou? or something like that, I'm back to square one. Once or twice I noticed the lift pump kept running for about 30 sec. after I turned the ignition "off" after a failed attempt at starting it when it usually goes back to zero after it first pressurizes
I got under the truck to see what kind of chore replacing the starter would be when I noticed I had a fuel leak because I had fuel on the under carriage and the starter. First thing I checked was the i/o to the lift pump and had no leaks @the connections. Then I ran my fingers under the bowl of the lift pump and it seems to be leaking @the plastic electrical connection, yet I have good fuel pressure: 12 psi @ idle.
So, I started it up to park it in the backyard on the RV pad to work on it this weekend and when I turned the ignition off it began to diesel! It took me 4 attempts to shut down before I was successful. I have had no problems with this truck except for a transmission up grade (BD) @ 12K and replaced the lift pump @75K.
Ok, I know the lift pump needs replacing because it leaks
and in OF all places at the electrical connection! But, do I also have an ignition switch problem or a started problem or both or better yet all three?
Has anyone had a similar Problem?
