If it's not one thing, it's another. On my way to work this morning, heard a horrible sound from the rear end. Stopped to find out that the prop shaft/yoke had pulled out of the rear end.

Turns out that the carrier bearing had completely fallen apart. Wouldn't have been so bad if the bits hadn't made their way to the ring and pinion. Broke 7 or 8 teeth on the ring...

New gears on the way. Unfortunately, I had to go with dealer service $$$$.

I swear, I love the truck. But sometimes I would be happier just tossing in a frag and watching it all go kabluey.

Tim,

Mine was $800 before I drove away.

BK, not even going to try and spell it! -Question, why did you have to go to a dealer? A good rear end shop would do it cheaper and probably better.

dealer service...

well, just so happens that the truck had some sort of magnetic attraction to dealerships. In fact, it broke down within sight of one. It is my daily driver, and as much as I hate to go to dealerships for anything, the job was quick, albeit very expensive.

Certainly if I had other means of transportation, the truck would have been towed to a local guy who has done some work before.

Either that or I would have torn the whole thing apart. But then again, there is the time factor. Never enough of it or money.
