Just a quick question. If I straight pipe my truck should I keep the resinator or just have it taken off along with the muffler. Thanks

resonator

it'll be easier to take it out. the downpipe is 3" as is the tailpipe from the muffler back. the outlet of the resonator and the inlet of the muffler are 4"???why. if you choose to leave the resonator in, you'll need a 4-3 reducer. you can get a muffler shop to make you a "test pipe" out of 3" pipe and remove the muffler and resonator. my muffler shop removed the muffler and resonator and installed a test pipe for $40. not all will do that. it was too loud for me... ... ... to each his own. i'd still have to try it myself to be sure... ... .

Like redneckdr said, to each his own. I removed everything and like it, but I may change my mind this summer when I start doing some towing.

I kept the resonator on to keep it a little quieter and to attempt to avoid the dreaded drone. It worked out great for me, and I love the sound. I put a 4" piece of pipe right on the 4" outlet of the resonator. That pipe goes to a 4" Walker tailpipe - which has all the right bends. It's capped off with a 5" chrome tip (meant for a motorhome) that comes out at the stock position. Looks and sounds great, and only cost me $100. Thanks to johnrv4 for helping me with it and making custom hangers! :)

I took off the muffler and resonator but reistalled the resonator a month later. Conversation in the truck is a little easier to hear now and I did not notice a performance drop. :)

Leave the resonator or it will drone and will have a sharp rapping sound at high RPM. They sound a world better with the resonator on than without IMO.

You check and see if your state inspection requires a muffler of some sort, which a resonator will work as one, then decide.

Don't listen to them

Go ahead and take it all off, you know you want to, go ahead and do it, every body else is doing it, you'll be really cool like the rest of us if you do it, come on just do it already, no body will care it's just a little exhaust pipe, come on all the cool kids have strait pipes, I wont tell if you don't, you didn't hear it from me. :p

Guys it's not a strait pipe if the resonator is still on. :D

"Strait Pipes Rule" :D  :D

A member of the dark side, come on over the water is fine. :D

Don't do it!

Keep the resonator in place. The sound is great

without the muffler. I did mine about 4 months ago

and at first I thought it was too loud even though

I kept my resonator but now it sounds perfect, and

driving under bridges or near buildings gives a

good impression of what it sounds like from a

bystanders perspective. I have an MPG video/audio

file that sounds good.

Right click on the file and save it to your hard

drive as it will download much quicker then you

can play it from your computer. I hope you have

cable or DSL, the file is 5 megs.

Mouse right-click, select Save As. .

Lemme know what you think.

Leave the resonator in! I have resonator with 4" from there back, and it sounds great and EGT's have never gotten above 1100.

Take it off! Take it all off!

I took both the muffler and resonator off. Great sound, no drone. It does get a little loud when under acceleration, but I usually have the passenger window open so I can hear it better. It can be a little loud on long trips also, but it doesn't take long to get used to. 1st day after I had mine removed, I drove 850 miles, and didn't have any complaints.

My muffler and resonator are in my storage unit in San Bernadino and are going in the trash in a couple weeks when I go clean it (the unit) out. I wanted to be sure I would stay with the sound of straight pipes before tossing it. My wife actually seems to like the sound. We just came off a 2800 mile trip and the sound was never an issue except, well, she sleeps alot. Like, a whole lot! I do all the driving (member, driveaholics annonymous). I have this bad habit when I drive, regardless if she is asleep or not, and the fact that the OAT reads 14 degrees F. When I pass through a tunnel the windows must come down :D But what about the passengerside you might ask? ESPECIALLY the passenger side! That is the side the TAILPIPE is on!!!:p :D I can't help it. I know she doesn't wake up well, even in the best of circumstances! And a nice sleep listening to Cummins music followed by a sudden 75mph blast of arctic air in your face makes one automatically start punching the driver in the right shoulder and and all about the head:rolleyes: But what is a boy to do? My name is Dennis, and I'm a straightpipeaholic:D

4" out the rear

Go 4" from the down pipe back. If you buy the bends from a truck parts store ( Not Auto Zone or Pep Boys or Advance). You can shorten the bends and mig them together to make the dog leg over the axle and tail pipe. Reuse the factory hangers from the pipes and mig them also. 150 bucks later you'll have a system that everyone except you and all of us hate. Now for the exhaust enhancer I'm working on!:D :D
