Anyone know what happens when the 5th gear nut falls off? Apparently mine fell off or was about to fall off.

Was this ever a warranteed repair? What if it fell off after the warranty expired?

My trucks in the shop needing a new syncro gear and they're telling me they're fixing the 5th gear nut at the same time. Meanwhile, I'm wondering if the 5th gear nut fell off and jammed the syncro causing it to fail.

I lost 5th gear last summer. I was past the 36k warranty on the transmission, but DC still covered the cost of the repair. However, it did take almost a month to get it repaired.

It wasn't until I talked to a DC customer relations rep that I was able to get the repair done as warranty work as a good will gesture.

I've been surprised that no one has done a class action suit to force DC to repair all 5th gear nut problems without the runaround we're given.

Vaman, it's not that hard. But you do need a couple of MONSTER wrenches to do it! When I had Enterprise Engine performance install my clutch I had them install the 5th gear nut fix at the same time - cost was around $150. That's for the split nut fix, not the fully supported mainshaft - in order to install the true fix you have to tear down the transmission completely. In my case when we got the t-case off my 5th gear was fine after 60,000 miles so I felt good going with the split nut fix because if it held for those 60,000 stock, I figured the split nut fix would hold.
