When to go to 19.5s

I'm trying to get my budget worked out and try to plan ahead. I put about 6k miles a month on my 3500 and it goes from empty to maxed payload to empty everyday and tows everything from a little 5 x 12 to a enclosed 24ft car trailer and i just don't see how the stock michelens are going to last more than 40k. i'd like to go a little taller but it dosen't seem like any of the 285s get great wear. so is the step up to 19. 5s worth it for a truck that will be on the raod for a long time to come.

I'm thinking about going to a G-rated 17" tire for my wife's truck. They have a higher weight rating and have high tread life. Good Year makes them; not sure who else. It's another option.

I have been surprised at how well the stock michelins have lasted especially considering my abuse. I stepped up the the 19. 5's for gear ratio alone but it's too early to offer much in the way of advice reguarding them.

Been running Michelins the past 50k miles and they look like they just went on. Pulling 25-32k 50-90 % of those miles too! truck and empty trailer alone weigh in at almost 19k!!

If I were in your shoes I would go with the 19. 5's . There is so much out there in that tire size. Good luck

I barely got 40k out of mine. 100% highway, no towing and no hauling and no burnouts.

The time to go to 19. 5's is as soon as you have the $$$. I've had them for over a year on a SRW with 11. 6 Lance (>3600lbs) and the difference between them and the stock stuff is night and day. Unloaded or loaded they are better everywhere. I don't worry hitting potholes in the freeway worrying about pinching a tire or a blow out. I run 245 70's. Some of the best money I spent on the truck. The company I delt with for the wheels was kind of a drag though as far as delivery time.

I've known several sets of Michelins to go around 100k on these trucks towing 95% of the time.

In the past I've never had good luck with any tire lasting much over 40k on any of my work trucks. The only exception was a 450 with 19. 5 that seem to wear great, the last time i saw it it had 50k and the tires still had plenty of tread and that truck was used hard and at its lightest it was 5tons and pulled all the time. i guess it comes down to miles perdollar .
