My Step Brother is going to replace his 92 CC with a 2003 or 2004 Quad Cab and I can not find any solid dates on when EGR will be introduced.

Can anyone confirm when or if EGR will be used on the Cummins?

Previous posts indicate the DC wont be using it till they have to. Which translates to Jan 1 2004. If they run out of non-egr engs tho the bet is off. So if you dont want egr, I would get one before mid Dec to ensure that it is not (but then why do we buy ins) buttttt... ... it still could be. Too late now to order a 03 . Ck the posts for (I think its) Donley or something like that. They have production info and when mine came in I deleted the short-cut. It is a nice site as they have all the info posted that they can get, reasons for holds, production probs (but listed as restriction) etc. Order cut-off and start dates, production start dates, etc. May try searching the web for leasing companies (they are a fleet leaser).

SOTSU!

Just out of curiousity, why does it seem everybody is steering away from the EGR? (Bombing issues, durability, something more to go wrong, etc????)

It sounds like I missed the cutoff date to order a 2003, so unless I find one on the lot I'll be ordering a 2004.

Thanks!!

the egr valve is way old technology. it has no place on a modern engine [gasoline or diesel] you can accomplish the same as what an egr valve does with variable valve timing and other little tricks.

modern engines are like new fast modern computers. egr valves are like the old 5. 25" floppy drives. you don't want, or need one of them in a new computer. you don't want/need an egr valve in a modern engine. get one without the egr if you can, if you get one with one, it'll probably [hopefully]be able to be disabled pretty easially [route it back into the downpipe with the intake port plugged off. ]

SAY NO TO EGR!!!

According to this article, the emission standard takes effect Jan. 1, 2004. That means that all diesel engines built on or after that date for use in the USA must be certified as meeting those standards. But, do not expect that the truck you buy Jan. 2 will have a new, low emission engine.

Depending on how many are built and how quickly they sell, buyers of trucks using Caterpillar, Cummins, or International engines may not see the new engines for weeks or months.

Guess we have to interpret this message as best we can !
