It's never happened to me, but since my gas guage don't work and I haven't had the time to fix it, its more likely to happen if I say forget to set the trip meter. Anyway, besides the obvious of putting diesel in the tank, what else do I need to know? Thanks!
On your 1996 you would most likely need to loosen the bleeder bolt on the top of fuel filter housing (10 mm) and push the primer button on the lift pump about 300 times till your finger was sore and fuel comes out of bleed bolt then close bleed bolt and it should start. May run rough till air out is out of injector lines. Not a good thing to run these low on fuel.
I've never had to bleed the air out on my truck. Even after the injector install or a filter change. I just push the primer 'till I start hearing the overflow valve make noise, then about another 25-50 times. Just depends on how the primer feels (pressure to push it).
