Anyone want a '97 Cummins/Ram Crew Cab?

more on our duramax... empty

I'd rather have one from Mexico, the paint seems much better,so does overall build quality. Both mine were built is St louis, both have extremely thin paint, and lots of assembly quality flaws,so your better off with the Mexican truck,IMO.

Sad situation isnt it?

My Mexico truck I have now is much better then my truck built here in the states. I had the paint so thin on the hood you could see stripes were it ws too thin. Constant problems as well. The Mexico truck has been solid.

Don~

I ordered a 2002 ETH silver sport quad cab and the dealer said it is coming out of Lago Mexico. The dealer even admitted the quality of trucks are better from Mexico because the workers do not belong to a Union, therefore they have to do good work or else they are canned and replaced. Plus the dealer said all the EPA crap is not near as strick in Mexico so for paint "they can still use the good stuff".

I've been tracking my new truck and according to the Union Pacific Railroad tracking system it arrived at the rail yard yesterday morning, now I'm sitting on pins and needles waiting for the dealer to call and say "come pick 'er up" :D Oo. :D

1 tuffram,

Watch your UNION comments!!

I am a Union worker and take pride in my Job! as many fellow American Union workers do.

Another side to the story

My truck was built in St. Louis. Great build quality and paint. Only problem with truck has been a new lift pump at 44K miles. I am glad that my truck was built in St. Louis. I've owned (my wife says to many) vehicles. Lexus, Porsche, Mercedes, I think my St. Louis truck was put together as well as any of these former vehicles. Now some of the materials used on these high dollar cars was superior, but the construction and fit were not. I'm very pleased. When your truck gets here check it out from top to bottom, if you are not happy don't take it. :-{}

UMMmmm - not to be a union basher - but many of the union guys need to be as "proud" of their WORK as they are their "jobs"... (read the quote above, again... ) Then more of us BUYERS could again be "proud" of our Made-in-USA products...

ON another note, I am aware that a number of other domestic truck brands are also made in Mexico - I'm especially interested in Ford trucks made there, as compared to the ones actually built in the USA - anyone know where I might find production numbers of Ford vs Dodge in regards to percentages of trucks built in the US vs Mexico?

Gary,

Are you proud of your Cummins Diesel Engine?

It is manufactured in a Union shop, by Union Workers, and

by Americans!!

This probably disappoints you, since your a typical Union basher.

Blame the Union Worker for everything!! Never blame the engineers or management. (sarcasm)

:-{} Give it a rest guys. I too belong to a union. You have good unions and bad ones. You have good workers in the unions and bad ones that use the unions power to be lazy. You have non-union workers that are lazy, and they get fired. Unions are a good idea, but their power is easily abused. People in the unions shouldnt be offended when people bash you for poor work quality. It might not be you doing the poor work, but the lazy co-worker, whose job you are protecting. Get rid of the dead wood and there wont be near as much bashing.

The paint job on my St. Louis Ram is pitiful. I see better quality paint jobs on a Hyundai. Even the American made Toyotas, and Hondas have better paint jobs. Dont blame the EPA. Blame the Company making the product.

FOR the record - and benefit of those who may not know of various WORLD Cummins locations where our 5. 9 engines are built:

BMC Sanayi ve Ticaret A. S. ** Izmir, Turkey B3. 9/5. 9 C8. 3

Midrange Engine Plant Columbus, Indiana B5. 9 ISB

Rocky Mount, North Carolina B3. 9/5. 9 C8. 3 ISB ISC

Cummins Brasil Ltda. Sao Paulo, Brazil B3. 9/5. 9 C8. 3 NT/N14

Darlington Engine Plant Darlington, England B3. 9/5. 9 C8. 3

Dongfeng Motor Corporation** Xiangfan, China B3. 9/5. 9

Komatsu Cummins Engine Company, Ltd* Oyama, Japan B3. 3 B3. 9/5. 9

Tata Cummins Limited* Jamshedpur, India B3. 9/5. 9

As far as I can tell, Mexico is where the VAST majority of the B5. 9 engines are reconditioned by Cummins... The US would seem to be only ONE in a large list of countries where Cummins has manufacturing facilities...

And NO, I am NOT a union basher - NOR am I blind to reality and cold, hard FACTS!

Gary,

Good job cutting and pasting from the Cummins website.

I was referring to the Engine in your Dodge Ram pickup truck,

it is built in Columbus, Indiana (for the record).
