My blower motor has been acting up lately. Sometimes when I turn it on it doesn't work for a minute or so, then starts working normally. Other times when it is on the lower two settings it doesn't put out the volume of air that it used to. Most of the time it seems to work OK. I looked on Geno's, but they only have blower motors for the 2nd gens. It may be the resistor, which would be good because they have one for the 3rd gen and it's only $54.17, and that's bound to be cheaper than a new motor. Geno's warns against replacing the resistor without checking the motor first because the problem will repeat itself. But if it is the motor, where is the best place to get one? At 16 years old I really don't have a problem with replacing both and being done with it.

Thanks.

Before you go crazy with the blower motor check the Ignition switch in the steering column what you describe sounds like the switch and or the plug connector is burning out. The full load of the blower motor goes through the switch. If you use the tilt wheel feature it puts a lot of strain on the plug connector.

I got both the blower motor and resistor at 1A Auto and both work fine and fixed my issue of my fan intermittently working.

I replaced my ignition switch late last year because a friend had problems with his fan running when the engine was off. Turns out the ignition switch was OK, so based on what's been posted here I'm thinking it's either the blower motor or resistor. Definitely a big variance in prices for the motor. Thanks for the suggestions, people!

Seems like I remember a post years ago that said the OEM blower motor was more quiet than aftermarket parts.
Is that true?
That has been my experience, and aftermarket fans just seem to be lower quality than oem. I'll stick with factory, too many failures with cheap junk.

Based on the responses in this and other threads, I am inclined to agree that the OEM blower fan is probably the better investment in the long run. But are the OEM blower fans available from anyone other than a dealer? I wouldn't be surprised if dealers were selling them for $300 or more.

I’m about to replace my blower and resistor. Quite certain the issue is not the ignition switch, as my blower motor often requires a slap on the HVAC box to get it started.

For those of you who had negative experiences with aftermarket parts, please be specific..which brand or supplier did you use? Good reports would be useful as well.
